But, I do think the new look works better on the Miata.

Agreed...the RX-8 and Miata are much lower in profile than a 3...so perhaps it's not the width of the "smile"....it's the height.

Now which one is Mia? and Tia?

Who cares!!

^^ Seeing two smiley  ;D Miatas  ;D no make you wanna do some top motoring?

Those smiley's on the Miata do make me think of the cars cartoon movie every time I see one.

My comments on initial_D post was referring to seeing two smileys on Japanese twins...

Oh...Miatas...OK...top down motoring...I'm into that too.   ;D

Hmm...it's plus 2'C here today...I'll consult the Mini's manual on folding the top.

The entire Mazda line up is moving to this new "smiley" grille. I think in about a year, it'll be so common, that most folks won't even notice it. The updated MX5 Miata will have it too. Kind of like the new Acura's front end, you get used to it.

The smile is HUGE on the Mazda3.  It works well on the RX-8...a bit less so on the Miata, but still not bad.  The Mazda3 is horrid....
How fast is my 911?  Supras sh*t on on me all the time...in reverse..with blown turbos  :( ...

when are the hatch versions arriving?  i dropped by the mazda dealer yesterday but i only saw the sedan versions.

Same here. Did you notice how high that trunk is now? Holy :censor:. You will never see anything behind you.

Oh, and no idea about the hatch. I'm still waiting to find one.

I had that sales guy call me 4 times in 4 days. The first three he left messages to tell me the same thing (the cars are in). On the fourth day I was actually around and answered....told him there is no reason to call so many times and don't do it again. I also reminded him that I'm out of town alot and I WILL DROP BY WHEN I HAVE FREE TIME. I think he might get it now.

I think it looks decent... probably better in the flesh.

Any specs yet?  I'm still hoping they add AWD to this version, but doubt it.

Mazda3 MPS, the performance variant of the Mazda3 which comes with the MZR 2.3 liter DISI turbocharged engine with 260 hp and 280 lb-ft (380 Nm) of cranking power. The DISI stands for Direct Injection Spark Ignition. Direct injection technology allows for both improved performance and economy.

Scheduled to go on sale in Europe shortly after their Geneva debut.

As far as I know AWD will not be offered.

Mazda Press Release - All-new Mazda3 i-stop, Mazda3 MPS to Premiere at the 2009 Geneva Motor Show

Mazda Motor Corporation will debut two new models of the all-new Mazda3 (known as Mazda Axela in Japan) product range at the 2009 Geneva International Motor Show from March 3 through 15, 2009. The world premiere of the Mazda3 with i-stop, Mazda's advanced fuel-saving start-stop system, will be shared with the all-new Mazda3 MPS, Mazda3's high performance flagship model. The Mazda3 MPS (Mazdaspeed Axela) now features improved fuel economy and emissions that satisfy Euro Stage 5.

The Mazda3 with i-stop embodies Sustainable Zoom-Zoom and adds a new eco-friendly option to the lineup. It features the i-stop system in combination with the MZR 2.0 DISI (Direct Injection Spark Ignition) engine. Together, these two Mazda proprietary technologies help the new model achieve approximately 12 percent lower fuel consumption (urban cycle) than the current European Mazda3. By providing great driving performance as well as top-class fuel economy, the Mazda3 with i-stop is a different type of eco-car that will exceed customer expectations.

Shame about the lack of AWD.  I think that was one of the few complaints of the outgoing MS3... too much power to the front wheels.

The white one must be the i-stop (no hood scoop).

If you want AWD...pay more and get a WRX. Simple. Theres a reason why the MS3 costs less.

Want more refinement? GTI.

Want AWD? WRX.

Exactly, it is quite a simple decision.
And nothing says fack-off like a hood scoop (functional) I like it!

Though hood mounted intercoolers are far less efficient than front mount intercoolers....

Not for low end performance, front mounted IC’s have miles of pipe that adds to turbo lag and absorb more heat.

DSPort pretty much put those myths to rest....with the FMIC besting the top mount in most every way...(On a Subie no less as their test vehicle).

FWIW, the top mount intercooler heatsoaked MUCH quicker than the FMIC despite "miles of pipe" in real world driving.

Um, ok... do you really think a buyer shopping for an MS3 would shy away because it costs $32K w/ AWD (estimate) vs $30K w/o?  I know if I were in the market, then I'd gladly pay the premium.

My comment was to the point that most complaints of the current MS3 were about it having too much power to the front wheels.  AWD would solve that.

February rate drop from 5.9% to 5.0%.  Return Mazda buyers get a 1% reduction.

I'm going to try and find a sport to test on Saturday (also the GTI).
