BTW let me just throw out, that the 2 features I need to have on my next car are factory-installed full Bluetooth support, and Traction Control. Outgoing Mz3 doesn't have either, current-gen Honda Civic doesn't have Bluetooth, but has TC in the EX-L. CSX probably has both but I'm not interested in another EL. If anyone knows of something that might fit my bill other than the 2010 Mazda3 feel free to suggest :)

If you want both those features I think you'll have to go for the next class up (Accord, Mazda6, etc.) Even there you probably won't get bluetooth in a base model. How about a used G35/37? Is that too pricey?

If dealer-installed bluetooth is an option instead of factory-installed, an Elantra would fit the bill.  It's got stability control, and Hyundai offers Bluetooth as a dealer-installed option.  Overall, you could do much worse in the compact car market than the new Elantra.  It may not be the sportiest, but it's an incredibly competent offering at a good price.

Is this available on Canadian Elantras? Sometimes we don't get what you get.

Gyro Mazda (Laird south of Eglinton) now has at least one 2010 Mazda3 in stock now. The salesman was nice enough to leave me two messages so maybe they got two cars in.  ;)

Re: Bluetooth Needed

If you REALLY want a car but it doesn't have Bluetooth, check out the new line of complete radio headunits from Pioneer (or others).  I've personally sampled/tested the AVIC-F700BT.  Navigation, Bluetooth, Sat radio, Ipod, etc..all in one.  It's essentially a "car-puter".  All for around $500.  The only thing I didn't like was it took a while to boot up from a cold start.  Beyond that, all the functionality works as advertised. Was even surprised that the speech recognition worked well. And the price is almost certainly cheaper than what it would cost from the factory to equip a car with Bluetooth and Nav...

I wondered for a while boring Corolla outselled Mazda 3 so much, until I realized that people probably stick to the numbers. Toyota still up there for reliability and the fuel efficiency is somewhat better too, so. Same with the Honda Civic. Mazda 3 has not been as reliable as the Japanese origin may suggest and parts cost a fortune, so...

I prefer a middling ground between performance, reliability and fuel effciency and when I got my Lancer (09), I wondered why there were not more on the road (great drive!!) until I looked at the fuel consumption numbers. After the $1.40/liters prices of last summer, that is all people were looking at.

Are those Mazda3's specially built for that dealership only?

I doubt it. I think there's a few dealerships in town which get the new 3 sooner. Showroom units I suppose.

Man....it would be better for everyone is the new 3 was delayed.  It's is sooo fugly compared to the outgoing model.  Best looking small car..to one of the worst looking in one model year.... :hurl:

Isn't all the fuss over how it looks from the front? Otherwise, the views (from the pics I've seen) from all other angels look almost the same. Also isn't the new interior a step up from last year?

They are pre-production models and not for sale. They will get destroyed or used for training purposed. This is what I was told by the Service Manager when I looked at one few weeks ago. The unit I looked at had wires running from the computer port to the center storage box and inside was a data collection device.

Yesterday I saw few new Mazda3s on a trailer going north on 400, most likely to the Concord compound.

The interior is significantly nicer than before, with quality materials, by far the best in class as of today and perhaps for the years to come; only the VW may challenge it with the MK VI and hopefully Ford with the next gen Focus.

No worries RR, still nicer/better than anything else in the class.

I don't think it really makes sense to delay a whole model just because the front grille looks bad. Didn't your momma tell you "don't judge a book by it's cover"? Tee hee....

The entire Mazda line up is moving to this new "smiley" grille. I think in about a year, it'll be so common, that most folks won't even notice it. The updated MX5 Miata will have it too. Kind of like the new Acura's front end, you get used to it.

But, I do think the new look works better on the Miata.

Local Mazda shop has several 2010 Mazda 3s in as of this morning. Only had a few minutes to stop on our way somewhere else but had a quick peek at the 3 Sport model in that bright blue color, black interior. Only a GS I think, but looked really sharp. I think the new one looks better in the "real" than in the pictures I have seen.

Wife thought it looked great also, so it is definitely on the short list for later this Spring.

BTW, IMO the "smiley" front end is far better looking on the real car than the pix. I was a bit concerned over how extreme the front was, but now that we have actually seen it, no worries there.  :)

Next time you or someone else checks it out, could you also check the first digit of the VIN #? I want to confirm that they're still building these things in Japan. :)

Any thoughts on whether the prev-gen Mazda3 "quick-rust-paint-job" will affect the 2010 generation?

Mazda3 is still made in Japan. No way to know if it will have rust problems 3-4 years down the road.
