The only picture left to see now is the hatch. Love the looks of that interior. Oh I can't wait to see/drive this car when it comes out.

The interior kind of reminds me of a Saab, how the controls wrap around the driver and there's the separate display right up near the windshield.

i like the interior. But that top sweeping dash is not needed. Just more place for dust to settle on. Still better than the new Z.

It is very possible the new Mazda3 will have the “Smart Idle Stop” feature, which reduces fuel consumption by up to 10% according to Mazda:

http://www.nihoncar.com/en/news-908-Mazda+Presents+Its+Smart+Idle+Stop+System.html

Essentially the system works by injecting gas into the cylinder that is already in compression mode and firing the spark plug as you tap on the gas pedal thereby making engine re-start in about one-third of a second.  It does not require assistance from an electric drive motor as in hybrid vehicles.

Yet another benefit of direct injection.  A big savings from what will likely cost next to nothing to outfit on their DISI engines.
Internal combustion thrust I trust

It looks like an evolution of the current model, save for the hood scoop, which is kind of Impreza-style (blah....).

I wonder if the scoop is a little overstated.  There looks like allot of extra camo on there which is obscuring the actual shape of the hood.  Just a thought anyways.

Turbo lag

Has nothing to do with lag...........Has always (in the past) been due to crash regulation.  And if they did put it in front, they could size the turbo to more or less eliminate any lag..

agreed.  i think the overall form will be a nice progression of the original but the big wing on the top of the hatch has to go!!  ick   they really should make the it an option.

Too funny, I looked and was happy it stayed.

No manufacturer can please everyone ... :)

While I like how the new Mazda3 is shaping up overall and by comparison with the rest of the vehicles on the market today it would still be my pick in the segment by a large margin, I like the G1 a tad better.

Too funny, I looked and was happy it stayed.

So are you saying the Mazda3 will outsell the Corolla?  That's crazy talk!!

Even when the Mazda3 was freshly new in the market it STILL didn't outsell the boring old Corolla...

You Toyota people are pretty funny... It's a well known fact that GM established it's dominance as #1 sales in the world through aggressive fleet sales marketing, including huge fleets of rental car inventory.  Now Toyota is #1 ahead of GM, and although they do have a far superior product to GM, they used the same method to get there.  I went to rent a car from enterprise a couple months ago, and was informed that my options were the toyota corolla, the toyota corolla, and the toyota corolla!  The rental agent joked about how many thousands of these things Enterprise bought, and that's just one of many large national rental companies.  Take out the fact that Toyota sold themselves out to the big rental companies (at the risk of damaging their reputation for future resale values), and the Mazda 3 is by far a more popular choice for RETAIL customers looking for a good looking, reliable, and fun car.

At legal or close to, legal expressway speed in NA  any car the NEEDS a wing also needs the companies aerodynamicists fired.

I would be among those who wanted to swap the trunk lid.

AFAIK, virtually all 'road' cars create lift at highway speeds, due to a number of factors, but the major one simply being the vehicles height and the amount of air that finds its way under the vehicle (creating the lift in the same manner as lift on aircraft wing).  Most rear wings on road cars, as I understand it, create minimal amounts of downforce, counteracting some lift.

That being said, many wings can accomplish this more discreetly (nevermind the resulting drag).  Others, as arguably in the case of the Evo and Ralliart, not so much.  More of a style exercise--if you can actually call it that.

If I were to purchse one of these, I too would look for the dealer 'wing delete option'.

..don't those mini wings like those on top of hatchbacks deflect that "swirl" backflow of wind that pulls exhaust and grime up onto the rear window...a GOOD thing.....and can't a well designed up swept trunk lid function just as well as those big washing LINE jobbies...?????...
Time is to stop everything happening at once
