Europe goes 4-door coupe crazy...
« on: September 21, 2008, 05:45:39 am »
After the Passat CC, here come Ford and Opel...

Opel Insignia Fastback

Ford Mondeo Coupe

The pic of the Opel is of a pre-production model.  The Ford is a pic of a concept...
I'd rather be car-poor than house-poor...

I'm glad Opel is using the correct term.  In my opinion, the CLS and all its followers should be called "fastback sedans," not "four-door coupes."  The latter term, if it should be used at all, should be reserved for cars like the RX-8 and Saturn Ion Quad Coupe.

Mondeo is definitely a special case mainstream car in all its forms. This looks brilliant.

How much rear headroom do those coupes have I wonder.   Is the target market just couples who need the rear seats to put baby seats in ?  I agree they look good, especially the Mondeo.

It's all kind of "everything old is new again."  Citroen did this with the GS and CX (neither were hatches, the GS got a hatch later on and became the GSA).  BMC did this with the ADO 160 project back in the 1960s...

From what I've read about the CC, you only lose an inch or so of headroom.  Definitely not a "child seat only" situation, though people above six feet might not be as comfortable as they are in a traditional sedan.

I love the 4 door fastback setup...it'd work for me...4 door practicality but with more sporty styling than a typical sedan.  Usually its just me in the front and a passenger...I don't often have people in the back but its nice to be able to have their own door.

I think it'd work.

One of those Olds Salons showed up for the classic car park of the Georgian College auto show!  All I can say is "wow, what was GM thinking?".

There was the new Passat CC there too, nice looking car, but too pricey for me.
