That Mark_Lenovo guy from the Lenovo forums is the man.  After talking with him some more about my situation, he's offered me a sincere apology and has said that I should expect a 100% refund early next week.

Too bad about all the angst & crap but glad you're finally getting your full refund as deserved.

About that split partition, thinkpads have long had a small hidden partition which contains a lot of extremely useful thinkpad utilities.  Virtually all thinkpad enthusiasts wouldn't live without it (read on thinkpads.com for example).  Apparently, lenovo has tried to copy the idea but perhaps botched on the implementation just like they've botched the service.

FINALLY got my new MacBook Pro (the first had been stolen en route, but FedEx and Apple were both cooperative in getting me a replacement at no cost to me).  The 2.53 GHz model.  It's BRILLIANT.  Absolutely amazing.  I am just blown away by how nice the new-generation OSX is and how nice the new laptop is.

With the exception of the new trackpad, which is annoying as hell.  Thank god for wireless laptop mice.

Full review will come in a week or so, but I can easily see right now how they can charge $1,000 more than a Lenovo Ideapad which looks the same on paper.

Most don't get it, but I agree they are awesome.  How's the glossy screen?

You'll probably get use to the trackpad, I didn't like mine at first but I love it now and never use a mouse.

There seems to be a fair bit of that going around.  I guess it's inevitable when you release a new, hot product.  A guy on another forum reported he received an empty box.  :/

Congratulations on the new computer, though.  They're fantastic machines!

Its a brilliant machine, well worth the premium over 'consumer' laptops by any other manufacturer. OSX is a bonus.

I just hope OSX is available for other PCs as well, they're all the same now.

The monopoly needs to end.

Since Apple moved to Intel chips, OSX can be installed on a number of systems.  InsanelyMac.com keeps a log of systems and components that are compatible...

However, a large part of the reason OSX works so well is that Apple designs it to run on certain hardware.  That makes it a lot easier from a stability standpoint to keep things going.

Personally, I'm happy if Apple doesn't want Mac clones being sold for $400.

I love it, but I don't use it in an office setting.  I haven't had any problems with reflections, though, and to me the pictures are far sharper and more vibrant.

Apple's EULA doesn't allow OSX to be run on any other machine than Apple's own. Its illegal.

Thats the only part I don't like, it should change. Its the same machine all around now, runs on almost every other machine, similar components. Its a remarkable OS, it can fight on its own. Monopoly is not required to keep it successful.

Mitlov, does the new Macbook Pro also have the entire trackpad act as one big button like the new aluminum Macbook?  If so, I understand why you're not a fan.

Yes.

It doesn't click about 1/4 of the time when I try to click, and the click is annoyingly loud.  What's wrong with cutting off the bottom 10% of the track pad and having two traditional buttons down there instead?

If the new MacBook Pro is the E92 BMW M3, this new trackpad is iDrive.

I am starting to wonder if I started something???  My plain old ordinary basic MacBook is doing quite well over here in the former Yugoslavia...

I despise trackpads of any kind.

I am used to using a mouse with my hand to right of the keyboard.  Having to hold my hand over a trackpad in the centre of the keyboard just makes my fingers and forearm cramp right up.

Stink Pads can't be all that bad.  A large majority of corporations lease them for their staff / execs.  I dunno.

I just bought a Toshiba Satellite A300-05U and am quite impressed with it so far.

Thats a very good line from Toshiba.

Thinkpads are the ugliest laptops around, can take a lot of abuse, no shiny stuff. Thats the major draw. Dell's Latitude lineup is v.good for this purpose as well.
