Looks pretty good, actually.   But I've watched Who Killed the Electric Car recently, and now I'm left wondering what's taking GM so long?  I had no idea the technology had been so far advanced ten years ago...  with that in mind, it seems crazy there isn't a Volt on the road already.

Yep, but the Volt seats more than 2 and can carry on indefinitely with the gas engine + generator if you're going past the 60Kms all electric range.

Pictures of the Chevy Volt:

Don't like what they did with the windows. Other than that, looks good.

For a car that is sacrificing allot for aerodynamics...that looks really good.  It looks purposeful to me...like a fighterjet looks purposeful.  It doesn't have to quite look good so much as it looks like its doing what it should be.

So it looks alright...its not too weird...now it has to perform.

Here's hoping that the Volt can be as groundbreaking and successful as the Prius has been. Great that GM is doing some innovative stuff.

Speaking of the documentary "Who Killed The Electric Car"... Did GM really need to handle the discontinuation of the EV-1 the way that they did?

Looks very good, although todays civic would be the best shell IMO for an EV. The best part about the extender is in a 5 or so years it can be thrown out and replaced by a more powerful (and cheap) Li-ion battery. The tech IS getting affordable. Just today saw a bicycle with a Li-ion battery, guess where? wallymart! Will post a few pics later, in my bike thread maybe.

I think it looks OK and will probably look better in person. A lot of people at gm-volt.com are freaking out because they think it departs too far from the concept car and aren't going to buy one anymore. GM will probably pick up 10 more Volt sales for everyone of these characters that stamped their feet and walked away :D For the rest at gm-volt.com it is going to be a lonnnnnnnnnnnnng 2 year wait for the Volt to hit the dealers....

 :iagree:

I keep thinking about the 'getting to the moon' issue.  The US of A, the first country to do it with slide rules, a couple of computers the size of a football field, and remedial-at-best launch and return program, sez it'll cost a BAHzillion dollars and 10+ years just to GO there, much less have anything remotely looking like a base.

Worst case:
1. Pull out the 40 year plans your great-grandfather at NASA drew with a No. 2 pencil.  Hopefully the cigarette ashes (after all, you would smoke at your desk back then) didn't burn too much of the knob-and-tube wiring schematics.

2. Build the thing - it worked 6+ times before.

3. Add upgraded 21 century technology.

4. Go.

If 90% of the cost is development, and you've already got a proven system, USE the %&*%&*(%^& thing, even in upgraded form.

The shuttles are perfect examples of 30 year old technology being ket aloft by upgrades to it platforms.

Actually Thinking, the first step is to decide that a return to space is more important than social programs and fighting meaningless wars in Asia.  This also applies to all kinds of other desirable things, like clean environment, US health care etc.

^^If Chevy sold a "Honda-clone" it would be the wisest thing they could do.  Afterall, Honda sells bucket-loads of RELIABLE cars and makes money on them....

You realise that GM sells twice as many cars in Canada as Honda?

Aerodynamics are aerodynamics, taken to the extreme, everything will look like a melted bar of soap.
On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last, and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron.

You missed that RELIABLE part I had in big letters, huh?(and to a lesser extent "makes money on")  Let me go back and put it into bold letters for ya...

^^^Oh...did Barrie hijack your account??  Are we going to where you think GM makes a more reliable small car than Honda?

I'll see your Honda trannies and raise you ALL GM 3.4L engines in ALL cars and vans with the headgasket issues.... :rofl2:
