New Toronto Tax
« on: August 27, 2008, 11:47:11 am »
Hi all,

Not sure anyone here has mentioned this, but on Sept. 1, David Miller's $60 plate renewal tax kicks in for residents of Toronto.

Any questions?

Tax grab!

"...Toronto expects to collect about $20 million in additional revenue during the remainder of this year. The tax haul is expected to be $56 million over the course of a full year..."

And I'm sure every penny will be eaten up by extravagant spending on stupid things.
And I'm also sure come sometime next year Miller and his pityfull servants will be moaning for more money, more taxes, and complaining ad nauseum how they don't get enough of a tax cut from the Province or from the Federal gov't.

Typical BS from the politicians for which the taxpayers get screwed.

What?  So if you have a Toronto address it now closes you $140 to renew your plates?  I forget the plate fee but isn't it $79?

Anyways wow....  How can they even do this when plates are provincial?

Same way if you do not pay your 407 bill, you can not get your plates

$60 doesn't even cover a tank of gas any more.

:iagree:  It's not really a big deal in the grand scheme of car expenses.

Still, it's only $60 and it's for an entire year.

I've often wondered that myself.  I do recall passing through (or was it by?) a place with a name that was vaguely like it on the way to Niagara.  Maybe it was one of those "Tim Horton" highway stops about which I hear so much. :rofl2: :rofl2:

When I heard this tax scheme last year.

I renewed my vehicle permit for two years last year(2007), renewal is up next year(2009). I am wondering if they'll charge me for 2008.
