I hope that this does not provoke Ovr50 into becoming Ovr60....  :D

Very, very impressive performance by the CTS-V.  If anyone doubted that it was "the real deal," this should satisfy them.

Someone will undoubtedly point out that, if the track or the drivers were different, it could have been the Bimmer winning by a narrow margin instead of the Caddy.  True.  But the real point, in my opinion, is that Cadillac absolutely succeeded in building a sport sedan that is as the same level as the legendary M5.  That'll blow some brand stereotypes out to sea.

In Canada what will be the price difference. I would expect the M5 to be $30k more. Caddy wins.

Na, no worries, mate.

The M5 is up for renewal shortly and it will be a new ballgame then. I would also suspect the resale value of the M5 will be much better than the Cad.

The mags have to keep doing these tests to keep their readers buying, in another test, the results could be different. I am somewhat cynical when it comes to these tests.

Besides, chronalogically, I'm already ovr60.... ;) ;) :o

The simple fact that the CTS-V can put a real fight and have a winning chance with the M5 is a positive thing for Caddy. This alone should break the stereotypes.

I can't find Canadian pricing for the CTS-V yet. The STS V is MSRP is $103k minus the $13k price adjustment.

STS-V is $90k I can't imagine the CTS-V being more expensive, Perhaps $80k?

The M5 MSRP is $123k with the executive package. :o  but OVR is right it will hold it's value better.

To paraphrase the tech guy at the BMW Car Club in the USA.  The M cars are thinly disguised race cars, powertrain wise and require the same painstaking maintenance that one would give a race car ( unobtanium 10W-60 euro oil, changing diff oil on schedule etc etc.)
The Cadillac  will, I am sure, work just fine with North American standards of maintenance.

I suspect that both these cars will be wallet busters in terms of tire wear.

... and the BMW will be worth 30k more after 5 years... it's all relative.  Plus the Caddy will have that famous GM quality.

True.  But   >$100k before tax is a formidable barrier, psychologically as well as financially to a lot of people.

Ahhhh..the M5 V10.  I have a soft spot in my heart for this car.  Was the first uber car I pounded in the Supra. :)

Saw/heard one on the weekend with a aftermarket exhaust.  Sounded %&*#@ AWESOME!!
How fast is my 911?  Supras sh*t on on me all the time...in reverse..with blown turbos  :( ...

A good example of the long-road ahead of GM.  This is a great of a result they can build on...

Seems to me that GMs new models like Astra, Malibu and Sierra compete very well with the competition. They have demonstrated here that they can compete with the top dogs too. Good for them.
On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last, and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron.

Their quality has already been proven to be world class in the last few years as they have taken car of the year in more then one area as well as in the truck field also. I suspect the CTS-V will run around the $89.000 price area fully equipped. I may well be wrong but thats my guess. Nice to own but where are we gonna run them is the next question.  :)

I think the lower intake gasket problems found on most GM engines a few years ago will haunt GM for many more years... I just couldn't take a chance spending that kind of money on a GM only to be let down by a $2 part... then again maybe the engineers have had their way and the bean counters have been stuck back in their cubicles. :)

Shame on you all.  We're talking about two 500+hp supersedans, insanity on four wheels, and y'all are evaluating them based on depreciation and maintenance costs?  Here's a reality check.  Either of these is an absolutely terrible financial decision.  They're expensive as heck new, expensive as heck to keep running, and offer zero practical advantage over a 528i or a base-engine CTS.

What happened to everyone's adrenal gland?  Y'all are evaluating these cars like we're talking about Fiesta versus Yaris.

I wouldn't be so sure that a M5 will spend any less time at a dealer than the CTS-V. It could be neck and neck. I can guess which one is going to have pricier service visits though.

good point Mitlov. With the CTS-V I could still have  $40k  to buy a "beater"  for the winter. Like a regular CTS AWD
