Test Drive:
2008 Suzuki SX4 Sedan Sport

2008 Suzuki SX4 Sedan Sport"The SX4's tall greenhouse pays dividends in interior room," says contributor Peter Bleakney.   Its standard manual transmission "snicks into gears with precision" but gas mileage is "on the high side for this class of vehicle," he says.

rrocket, you took the words right out of my mouth, or should I say the letters out of my fingers. It uses too much fuel and the lack of a folding rear seat is a huge ovesight.

Add me to the list...

They really need to improve the fuel economy and get it much closer to Civic and Corolla levels.  7.9L/100km in mostly highway driving?  Cripes, our Toyota stays under that in 100% stop/go commuting.  Sure, it has a few more ponies, but not nearly enough to justify the added consumption.

Add the AWD from the hatch, raise the price VERY little, and it suddenly looks great...

If I flog my Fit without mercy, it gets 7.5 l / 100 km in the city. If it take it a little easier, it gets 7.0 l / 100 km. At 100 km/h, it will do 5.5 / 100 km

..Ize dislikes ALL these 4 door TRUNK-ated versions of decent hatchbacks...I suspect the ONLY reason the US doesn't like 'em (hatchbacks) is they are rarely offered to the market there...try em fer a week or Two and they'd be SOLD....why ALL the anguish over a few Litres per 100K..if ya likes the Suzuki..Buy the 4WD (or 2WD) hatchback instead.....hell a coupla Hundred BUCKS per year saved to drive a car ya didn't have the hots fer.... :nono: :bang:

I agree. Cool looking car, but I don't really see any advantage of taking this over the hatch. I keep rooting for Suzuki but it's hard to when there are simply better cars out there. Hopefully they'll remedy the fuel consumption issue in the model years to follow.

Americans really don't like hatchback small cars, for some reason. For all the great reviews and bargain basement pricing, VW hardly sells any Rabbits in the US. The Astra has the same problem, no trunk = no sales. GM made a huge blunder by not importing the trunked version.

2-3 L/100km is more than a couple hundred bucks a year.  On a 1500km road trip, that 2L/100km equates to 30L of fuel, or about $40 on one trip.  Someone like me that logs 30K a year, that 2L/100km is about $750 a year, and 3L/100km is close to $1200 a year.

A hundred dollars a MONTH in fuel savings.

Gas ain't $0.50 a liter anymore...
