2011 Chevy Cruze
« on: August 21, 2008, 11:31:43 am »
The first official pictures of the new Chevy Cruze are out for scrutiny.

Personally, I like the general lines and details of the car, except for the taillights; I would've liked them with a straight bottom line instead of curved.

Considering the spy shots of the interior, which looks good too, I would say GM has a good-looking car in its hands.

Same pics here. Looks good. :) But I thought it is a Daewoo under the skin. Now I'm not so sure.

The kicker? The 2011 Chevy Cruze will be built at GM's plant in Lordstown, OH where the current Cobalt and Pontiac G5 are built. Though it'll be built right in our own backyard, the Cruze reportedly won't be available in the U.S. for at least a year or two.

I like it.  It's a solid design, but it's 2 years away.  They need this now....I'd like to see a sporty AWD wagon version.

The front is nice enough, overall appears low like a Civic, but the rear is incredibly generic and indescript. Oughtta be a major improvement, but suspecting Ford and others will have 'em beat.

:iagree:

This is one fine looking vehicle! :)

Kind of a 4/5 Malibu. I actually like the rear end as well. Here's hoping that GM puts the effort into this like they did with the Aura and Malibu.

Very nice!

But "Cruze"? Surely they could have come up with something better. At least it isn't an alphabet soup designation.

GM seems to be sticking with "C" for their smaller cars!

Citation
Celebrity (okay this one is a stretch as it was technically "mid size" on the same platform as the Pontiac 6000 etc)
Chevette
Cavalier
Cobalt
Cruze

That IS good...its not superb but quite good.  Given what we've seen so far I think this is a step in the right direction.  Now...all they need to do is make sure that it drives decently, gets competitive fuel economy, and ultimately that its build quality and reliability are high.  If they can do that and they can do it consistently for the duration then they will have a reputation for a great small car.

The looks don't agree with me. Front looks too heavy for a small car and the rear resembles a Rio. I like the interior a lot, but can't live with this exterior.

Just look how chunky the front Bonnet is...oppps......Hood is. :)

First the Aveo, Supporting GM new nose. It does look like that NA Chevy GM's line up will hold that look.

My impressions from the whole deal... I'd liken it to seeing a good looking girl.
At first glance you're thinking oh hello, what's your name. You get close and your thoughts change to... I dont think so.  ;D

Don't you mean the Sebring rather than the Stratus? If so, I think I see it too. Not a bad thing In my opinion, there are a lot of worse cars to take styling cues from.

Note the Cruz will not be built in Oshawa, which would be the logical place since Canada has a lower cost of doing business than the USA. I wonder of Buzz's "blockade" of the GM Canada HQ had anything to do with it? My wager would be "yes."

Then you'd lose the bet. The Cruze had been planned to be made in Lordstown as far back as I can remember reading articles about the "Cobalt replacement" with the small turbo engine. Lordstown seems to be THE factory for GM's small cars, it will make the Cruze, is making the Cobalt/G5 and before that was making the Cavalier/Sunfire. Canada may be cheaper (in large part due to universal health care), but there is the matter of the currency. A small car needs to be affordable, and making it in the same country in which you sell most of its production isolates the price from currency fluctuations. There is also the matter of how much money would need to be spent to make the factory able to produce the car, since Lordstown already makes the Cobalt of which the Cruze is supposed to be an "evolution", it probably would cost a lot less to re-tool Lordstown than a Canadian factory which makes trucks, SUVs or relatively large sedans. Plus they'd need to shift the displaced production elsewhere.

Blaming it on the CAW is absolutely ridiculous.

First Review of Chevy Cruze.  Not a bad looking motor. Even with the Malibu/Aveo looking nose.  but then you get to the back. It really looks cheap-OO IMO.  ;D
