New Diesel X5 & 3 Series BMW in NA soon...
« on: August 06, 2008, 04:22:12 pm »
" Rest easy, torque-lovers, BMW will be releasing the diesel version of its uber-popular 3 Series sedan in the United States later this year, exactly on schedule. Because it's so late in the year, the Bavarian automaker will be labeling it as a 2009 model, leading some to believe that the 335d was not going to be coming until next year. Not so, according to BMW spokesman Tom Plucinsky, who confirmed to KickingTires that both the 335d and the X5 35d will be making it Stateside sometime in November after production begins in September.

Both upcoming diesel models from BMW will use a 3.0-liter twin turbo oil-burner rated at 265hp and 425 lb-ft of torque. That's plenty of stump-pulling torque, but the best news could be the expected fuel mileage of 23 mpg in the city and 33 mpg on the highway when paired with the six speed automatic.
"

I expect that other premium manufacturers are also likely to introduce diesels very soon, broadly speaking, I don't see what Canada wont be offered the same as the USA.

Alright, but this will probably cost significantly more than a 335i. :o At which point I think I'd rather have the latter and pay for gas.

Somewhat more interesting would be a 323dxiT (or would it be 323xdT?).
You can't just have your characters announce how they feel.
That makes me feel angry!

In the UK, a 330SE diesel only costs £450 ($900 CAN) more than a 330SE petrol.

The diesel does 46.3 MPG, the petrol 330SE 39.2... so the diesel is about 15%+ more fuel efficient but costs, relatively speaking, only pennies more.

A 335SE petrol is £1,280 ($2,560 CAN) more than a 330SE diesel but only does 31 MPG... so the 330 diesel is about 50% more fuel efficient and cheaper - WOW.

An efficient bargain if ever I saw one.

I'm sure at some point soon, probably at the launch of the Derv, an AWD "X" saloon, coupe, & touring diesel option will be made available

The summer issue of BMW Magazine has an insert "Diesel now available with legendary BMW handling and performance" It comes with 'Blue Performance' as in so does MB.

What it doesn't say is which models will get it but I imagine 335 and perhaps the five series?

It will be the 335d and X5. The information is from a bmw salesman I've dealt with in the past.

Subject: BMW High-Performance Diesels

BMW Canada Inc. is pleased to announce that High-Performance Diesels will debut in the Canadian market
in the fall of 2008 with the introduction of the BMW 335d and X5 xDrive35d.

The BMW 335d and X5 xDrive35d models introduce BMW’s new Advanced Diesel with BluePerformance in
the form of a 3.0-litre straight-six diesel engine with Variable Twin Turbo Technology. With a maximum
output of 265hp and peak torque of an astonishing 425 lb-ft., this new engine will not only provide sportscar-
like-acceleration and drivability, but offer up a whole new level of fuel efficiency and emission reduction
in both models ...

Yup mine too. I could buy a Cherokee SRT-8 (rattles and plastic galore) and spend the $35k I save on gas. ;D
