ECO pedal
« on: August 04, 2008, 04:01:32 pm »
A computer on-board detects wasteful acceleration and resists the pressure applied by your foot!

Doesn't seem like a good idea to me. I need acceleration on on-ramps, sometimes quite a bit. Wonder how the system decides when is not a good time to accelerate.

???  ::) Dumb gadgetry for dumb drivers. I can’t wait for the first lawsuit as a result of a driver with the dummyfier engaged who tries to overtake a transport and fumbles for the off switch when an oncoming car appears out of no where and an accident results.

Drivers can also opt to switch the system off.

Personally, I'll be opting out.    :P

Seriously dumb. I don't want one

On the few occasions I have driven conventional NA automatic transmissions I have always felt that the gas pedal was not linear in operation. That a small gentle initial movement would give a big lurch forwards but at speed it seemed to require a big push to go faster. I don't mean kickdown , just as if the pedal spring got disproportionaly heavier as it was depressed further

If you can't decide for yourself how hard you should be accelerating, you shouldn't be allowed to drive IMHO.

Choosing a car based on reliability is like choosing a wife based solely because she is punctual. There is more to it than that...

I am not sure it'll be a big issue for me.   Since I drive a 2.slow, I don't have the luxury to use acceleration to get myself out of mess.   Everything has to be pre-planned and executed perfectly.

See, VW installed the EcoPedal as OE on all the 2.0 engined cars. Some engineering, eh?  SMART has it too.

For me it's about power to weight.  I rarely lack for something in the garage that can't get to 100km/h in 4 sec (or less) but they don't often have more than 200hp.
