Was snoopin' the Subie Canada website last night, building 'my' 265 hatchback and noticed the min. fuel requirement was 87 octane.  Is this just to appease everyone squawkin' about fuel costs lately and that's what it'll run on if the computer retards the timing, or have they actually done something to make it run normally on regular fuel?

More and more this is looking like the do-everything car I'm after -- yes, even at Cdn prices.

They are calling it a high pressure turbo (maybe 14-16 PSI) so I don't see how 87 would work or even be recommended. If you run 87 I would expect less HP, terrible fuel economy and black soot but I'm sure the computer will compensate.

87 vs. 91  :P that would be like going to a bar and ordering a Blue instead of a Stella  :-X.

When 91/94 gets to $2 litre will you still want one Jeff?

The only other fun car out there that's going to get significantly better fuel economy than that is a Cooper S... and the wiffy says I'm not allowed to get another chick-car.   :-\  Taking an average consumption (avg of city and hwy) for the new 265 is actually closer to the MX5 than I thought.

A4?  Meh, been there, bored with that.  I like the new ones well enough, just not sporty enough.

Speed3 can't be appreciably better... of course any of these boosted cars will get gross mileage with me at the wheel.  I seem to have a really bad habit of constantly stomping on the sucks-back-more-gas pedal.    ;D

But I really have no idea why these puny little 4 bangers get same/worse mileage than the Supra.  Makes no sense at all....

I never got anywhere near the quoted consumption for the Impreza, I think you just drive these cars differently than normal, you can never match the fuel stats...

Another chick car...  :rofl2: :rofl2:

I have been keeping tract of my fuel consumption by reseting the trip odometer with every refill and I have noticed that I get pretty close to what the suggested MPG are. I do mostly city driving since I work, live and do most of my driving in a 20 km bubble. With spirited city driving I get about 20 mpg, some times worse.  When I go out of town and get on the HWY I usually get about 25 MPG so these are the pretty close to the posted numbers.
I put a performance cat back exhaust on (made by subaru) and I have noticed that my MPG have gone up. I used to avarage about 19 mpg now it is about 21-22.
These number are far from what my civic SIR used to get but you have to pay to play!!

I too have been looking more and more at an '09 WRX265 next year.

Hopefully Vman will have one in his driveway for me to test drive well in advance.  Although I also like the Dark Grey...dammit.

Really though, this car comes pretty much loaded off the lot.  Only option box I would check is for that "sport grill".

Jeff, I agree that end of summer deals are the way to go.  They were offering $4k off the '08 WRXs on cash deals, plus you could probably wiggle more.  But I suppose that obviously had a lot to do with the '09 improvements.

Only problem for me is the stang's summer rubber will likely be toast for next year (probably $500 for replacements)......decisions, decisions...

I can relate.  Should I try to work a less favourable deal in the next couple of months and succumb to the wants of new-car-dom, or do I shell out for new tires and new brakes, only to return the car late next year.

Hmmm...

LOVE the base wheels -- big, airy 5-spokes.  Having now had two cars with 10 -spoke wheels, I much prefer cleaning 5-spokers instead!

Not sure the $82/mo extra is worth it for me (it was $110 extra for the versions I priced out).  If the 265 is as good as everyone says it is, I think I'd rather pocket the extra moolah.  I do much prefer the looks of the STI, but not THAT much more.  And replacing 18" rubber is only gonna cost me that much more.

Quick test by Motor Trend:
http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/hatchbacks/112_0810_2009_subaru_impreza_wrx_test/index.html

Yup.. looks about the same as all the other recent tests on the new WRX.  Much better handling.  Much better accel.  Why buy an STI.  Sounds good to me.

But 0-60 in 4.8 sec?!  WoW!

Even with a low downpayment the lease rates are pretty reasonable... hmmmm...

Not sure if I want to lease though, that feeling of paying $X per month and never owning anything.  :-\
