Cash Purchase, so a direct response to people shopping cross border.  Probably an effective tactic.

Saw an ad for it in Saturday Star Wheels section last Saturday. I was thinking wasn't half bad for 2.5i models.

At least I thought I saw it... know I had to look close since Forester & Impreza are often in the same ad, and many were talking $4,000 off Forester but remember standing there thinking it'd make Impreza pretty cheap. This is all Subaru.ca shows...

The prudent buyer will be turned of by the fuel consumption during these days of the sky is falling. $4000k is nice for people who are looking for an AWD car but the new frugal shopper will drink Toyota and Honda kool-aid. Subaru will need to introduce FWD modes to compete.

if you go to subaru.ca, and build a impreza... u'll see that there is a $4000 cash purchase discount...

itz funni how alot of people say that a subaru drinks a lot of fuel, prob cuz of itz AWD... but when you look @ it further, a VW rabbit actuallie drinks the same amount of fuel as an impreza.... so i dun see how bad it is...

The IMpreza is a far cry from an SUV or whatever in terms of fuel consumption, but still much higher than a Corolla or Civic.  But, for an AWD wagon, with 170hp, it's pretty good.

At $21,300 with GT for a 2.5i with AT, that is real value.  Maybe I'll replace the Forester.  Nah, let's see what they do about diesels first...

I just did the math for a WRX if you can get better then a 9% loan (over 4 years) for the $35,583.70 you will come out a head with the cash deal (or find your own finance). You will still save money buying in the US just not as much, Subaru Canada is pretty much splitting the difference with you on that deal.

If you can't finance it your self your hosed because it will cost you $42,523.06 over the 48 month.

Just wondering. What kind of city fuel economy do you get?

Subaru will need to introduce FWD modes to compete.

Or a more efficient engine.  Even in FWD guise, the 2.5 isn't frugal in the least.  In addition, the AWD system is pretty efficient...FWD alone won't help.

Dewd, as an engineer you should know that Subaru AWD systems have a +/-20% driveline power loss compared to +/-10% on single axle drive cars.

It's not a highly inefficient drivetrain for AWD. Even if it the FWD was 10% loss (which I really doubt..closer to 15% would be my guess) we're only talking of an economy FWD car getting a combined 24 US MPG....still pretty suck-a-licious...

I don't think I need to tell you that the 2.5 boxer was never made to be "frugal"...

From the US EPA (and using US gallons):

Impreza 2.5i (either transmission): 20 mpg city, 27 mpg highway, 22 mpg combined.

Toyota RAV4 i4 AWD:  20 mpg city, 25 mpg highway, 22 mpg combined.
Honda CRV AWD: 20 mpg city, 26 mpg highway, 22 mpg combined.
Nissan Rogue AWD: 21 mpg city, 26 mpg highway, 23 mpg combined.
Jeep Patriot 5MT AWD: 22 mpg city, 27 mpg highway, 24 mpg combined.

Not very impressive in my book.

The Impreza would be wicked with the new boxer diesel.  The torque would move the little Impreza along swiftly and the mileage would be close to 50 MPG..or more..
