McGuinty's Looking to Euroland for a new manufacturer...
« on: July 02, 2008, 01:51:40 pm »
...if you had your choice of all the manufacturers in Europe to choose from, who would you want to see succeed with a plant and product here?

I'm voting for Citroen, close second - Fiat.
Fortune favours the bold!

I don't know the whole story, but will I laugh again at what McSquinty is up to?

I'd like to see Renualt for the Modus and the Scenic.

The Citroen Picasso certainly has personality, but the rest of thier models seem a bit anonymous.

I've seen Peugots around England and likewise am not impressed.

Peugeot they are the best IMO.  ;D

Trouble with Fiat, Renault and Citroen they are not that reliable. Renault and Citroen are only reliable when the got the Peugeot diesel engines under the bonnet IMO. ;)

Ummmmm. While your at it........

I also say scrap NA Ford and GM. Bring over the Euroland Ford and GM products which are far better and would save the companies IMHO. ;D

The problem with all those is that they're not THAT reliable... not even Peugeot, I speculate Renault is the most reliable of the bunch...

Citroen + Peugeot = PSA, kinda like a french VAG. :D

Windsor was trying to court VW.  But VW balked because of...you guessed it...the CAW.

Wonder how Honda and Toyota did it...what happened to Hyundai in Quebec?  Union also?

Sidebar, I'm wondering if VW is better NOT getting (back) into the 'macrovan' market with JV deal on a new-nosed Dodge Caravan, given declining minivan sales?

Ummmmm. While your at it........

I also agree - a 'clean sheet' approach would be nice - but at what cost in alienated loyalty to the existing brands (and there is to some extent)?

Ford Trucks could be spun off, and the Crown Vic Police Interceptor has a dedicated following in law enforcement circles that a Magna could own without breaking a sweat (Frank Stronach, Line 1 please....Frank Stronach, Line 1) paid-off tooling and an assembly plant ready for purchase.

Anyway, back to my original question, would like to see ANY other brand, in addition to VW, in the general populace affordability sector from Europe.

I was reminicing about the Renault/AMC days, and (really) old Skoda days.

Isn't that what GM is already doing with Saturn with very mixed results? A friend of mine just traded in their Ion :P for a new Astra. I am hoping to take it out later this week and see how it drives. Their Ion was pretty crappy based on my time driving it. I am hopeful that the Astra will feel a bit like a VW or sort of "Euro". :)
