Local Dealer Gouging for Challenger SRT8 !!!!

Went into a local dealer after a Challenger SRT8 was spotted there.  I wanted to see MSRP and have a quick peek at the car.  Sticker was a tad over $50K.  But then the salesman said that although that was the sticker, they were asking $75,000!!   :o When I started to laugh, he started rambling on about how there will only be "500 of these this year" and that this one comes with a dash plaque that says so.  SO for your $25,000 premium, you get a dash plaque and a sore bum.

Dealers always gouge for fresh-off-the-production-line halo cars.  I remember similar reports for everything from the GT-R to the 2006 Civic Si (no joke) to the Shelby GT500.  These premiums will disappear soon.

Not much has changed.  People in the States were paying way over MSRP for the New Beetle when it first came out.  Even used ones were going above MSRP.  Wait a year or two if you can.  You might be able to get one at $25K used.   It's capitalism.

Its not gouging really.

If you want to be one of the first to have a car that's in limited supply you pay the premium. If you feel the extra 25k is too much don't buy the car or wait a while until supply meets demand simple as that.

Gouging is if Quebec govt. makes snow tires mandatory and every snowtire seller in Quebec adds a $500 per tire surcharge to their snow tires.

The difference is you are FORCED to pay the $500 extra for the tires because you MUST have them otherwise you face repercussions.

No one's forcing anyone to buy a Challenger SRT. The fine print allows dealers to sell for a price other than MSRP. Unless they have an agreement not to surcharge with Chrysler they are well within their rights to sell the car for whatever they can get.

I wouldn't want to be the guy who trys to trade in his charger in 3 years when they are in good supply and selling new for less than 40K if I paid 75K now. That's basically an "instant" 25 K depreciation when you drive it off the lot.

My Pathfinder has a plaque in it as well, limited edition Chilkoot No. something (I can't remember).  What is it worth?  $45,000    :rofl: :rofl: :rofl:
