Lasik FTW!!!  :)

I second that.  Lasik with the custom cornea wavefront. Now the only glasses I wear is a nice set of polarized Serengeti's.

Had one eye done in '95 with PRK, 95% successful
Had the other done in 'o1 with Lasik 100% successful
I was going get the custom wavefront or what ever they were calling it, but my eyes were to bad to get the top of line , so I got the $490 stuff it work great

What was your prescription and how much astigmatism?

20/400, need glasses to find my glasses
astigmatism was bad, if my contacts rolled I could not see a thing
Now have over 20/20
need reading glasses only if I am doing a lot of working on the laptop
his is guy who did my eyes http://www.lasikmd.com/cquebec/meet-your-doctor/our-surgeons/dr-joseph-weinstock.en.html they did a bit on him on 60 minutes back in '95

Good thing is my prescription hasn't changed in a long time.  I have a feeling it might need a small correction soon though.

My glasses have the thin arms and they still miss a lot of peripheral vision, the small lenses fashionable now just don't extend far enough. If I put on my old set I see much more (and they had 'small' lenses for the time, heh).

Doesn't help that ever second vehicle nowadays is grey-brown, ie the color of pavement.

Get around the lack of peripheral by relying on the wide angle attachments on my mirrors like a trucker instead of shoulder checking.

Would like to try lasik but I was trying contacts last month and really hated the slightly imperfect vision they gave me.

the trendy kind that have the wide sidearms (temples)
So, who decides what's "trendy" and what's not?  Has it something to do with that one guy who won the Canadian Idol contest?  Sorry, but not a "trend" follower.  Those wide arm glasses are just plain goofy and make people look like nerds.  Or is it because nerds are "in" these days?

It's odd.  It's like everyone in the world is near sighted (can't see far).

Am I the only person that is far sighted?  I can see perfectly clear for everything but can't see small text (like books / computer screens) to save my life.
Nope.  I'm farsighted, too.  I was just fine till I hit 40.  Then I needed reading glasses.  It's gone to crap since then.  I can see distance just fine.  Give it another 10 years and you won't be able to read big print either.  I can't see small print to save other peoples' lives.   :cp2:   ;)

Ah but that is different.  That is age related farsightedness or "presbyopia".  I too suffer from that.  James suffered from being farsighted most of his life, which is unusual.

I didn't know that about James.  I just thought his eyes were growing old before their time.

Had both my eyes done with the Lasik procedure.  I've been glasses free for almost 10 years.  Age is catching up though; I've recently had to give in and use reading glasses, the kind from the drug store.

What is custom cornea wavefront?  Is that some sort of shaping technique beyond the basic laser cutting of Lasik?

Beats me. I just went for all the bells and whistles and found the best surgeon in town. Cost me a lot of dough ($4600).

My prescription was not very bad (About 1.25 or 1.5) with astigmatism. I hate contacts and they don't work very well in dirtbiking environments (dusty). I found that even with my minor prescription that I was having trouble seeing trail junk while dirtbiking. I felt uncomfortable at higher speeds so that was it. Much better for skiing too.

I wear contact lenses (and sometimes glasses) as I am near sighted.  I am leery of the possible long term effects of laser eye surgery.  And I don't have the $$$ burning a hole in my pocket.

Strong prescription bifocals made of high index glass so they are thin at the edges can easily cost $400-$500 for just the lenses.
Frames can be as little at $30
