Converting MPG U.S.A to KM CANADA.
« on: June 11, 2008, 12:05:02 am »

Hello There. I am planning a trip which consists of me driving 232 KM from where i live. Now my car gets 18 MPG City and 28 MPG Highway. I am trying to figure out the calculation to convert the 18 and 28 MPG to KM's.  AND how far i can go with the full capacity of gas my car requires which is 18 U.S Gallons or 68 Litres Canadian.

Is there an easy way to do this?

http://www.onlineconversion.com/fuel_consumption.htm

18 miles/gallon(US) = 13.0674769 liters/100 km

28 miles/gallon(US) = 8.4005208 liters/100 km

And don't forget that US EPA mileage measurements are more pessimistic than other standardized fuel economy measurements (they assume heavy air conditioning use and the like).

So, you're saying that the 18 and 28 are miles per US gallon?  I'm curious as to why you're not using Imperial gallons since this was the last thing we used in Canada before metric.
In any case, 1 mile is just 1.6 KM.  If you know your tank is 18 US gallons, I think the rest should be a logical progression.
