I'm trying to hook my Playstation 3 up to my computer monitor. Which would mean going from HDMI to DVI. Is this possible?

Me no think so. Pin sets and signals are different.

Only HDCP DVi monitor or HDCP HDMI monitor will work.

The 80GB is out this month. Bundled with a game, for $499. Big difference is 4 USB ports, software emulation for backward compatibility with PS2 games, and ability to read flash memory.

Those are the same specs as the 80GB unit I purchased this past X-Mass FOR $499. What's the deal?

Sony "discontinued" the 80GB model recently. Now its bringing it back. Marketing, is all.

Newer version of firmware on the PS3 and 'better' software for online gaming,  gamers can have access to the much-hyped in-game messaging and video chat facility. Bonus Metal Gear 4 game.

Yup, HDMI to DVI cable should work just fine. Some older TVs were DVI before HDMI became common. Some of the older Sony Grand Wega sets were like this.

I think its going to depend on the software being used. Most (if not all) movies require the HDCP to work so if the monitor does not support it, it won't work. I'm not sure about games if they need if present or not.

My PS3 (HDMI) currently runs through my Marantz SR8001 (HDMI) into my Hitachi RP_CRT which is DVI. I have no issues.

You'll need one of these:

However, I think DVI is only video.  You'll still need to get audio transfer.
