The CBC should hire Curt Kielback, former Winnipeg Jet/Phoenix Coyote play-by-play man.

Can't they just revamp the same tune?

Can they revamp "God Save The Queen"?

I wish they would.  "Jerusalem" would be a better National Anthem.

Somebody said 'mattress' again!!!!!!!!

And did those feet
In ancient times.....

Quick, we need more people in the tea chest! :rofl2:

Mucking about with the theme to HNIC is a travesty.  However, it's also business.  If they feel that $500.00 per broadcast is too much well, then, what can we say.  It might be "our" national broadcaster but it's their budget sheet, so.... ::) :P

CBC offered her one million dollars for outright ownership of the tune. They also offered to continue paying the $500/broadcast fee.

Both were rejected.

It's hard to blame the corporation in this case. She's playing hardball and may get hit on the side of the head for her troubles.

Wow. Hard to believe that she would turn down that kind of money. I understand she may be reluctant to sign away the rights to the song, but $1 million bucks and $500 per game is nothing to sneeze at. That would provide her with around $50,000 per year income one would think - roughly 100 games per season broadcast Canada wide?  Maybe more if each regional broadcast also uses the tune.

It's not like there are a lot of other bidders out there wanting the song.

Greed or she didn't want to drop the lawsuit.

Any song writers out there?   I think here is your chance to write the next HNIC theme song.  Sounds like a $100K contest in works.

I say throw money at Stompin' Tom, then update and use "The Hockey Song" instead.   8)

I think it was reported they have been paying out about $65K a year to use it.

The lawsuit, according to CBC, wasn't a deterrent to them, but she certainly has her back against the wall.

Miss B - you should suggest that and go after the $100,000 prize.

Unless there are some other tidbits of information, $1m + 65k/yr is stupid to say no to, imo.

It was an either/or.

Either they would buy it for $1 million, or they'd continue paying the royalties, not both.

What's your source for this info, I'm curious, b/c I have never seen any reference to $1mm in any article I've read

Maybe I'm odd...but who gives a $hit about this song....Maybe if there was this much outcry over our soldiers getting killed in Afghan, they'd be home next week.....Honestly...don't we have more pressing things to worry about than a stupid song?

The soldiers think they are performing a useful service in Afghan.
Probably more important then 90% of the jobs in Canada
Besides just wait until our troops end up going into the Congo, the next big hot spot for peace keeping

That would be before or after going to the Akwasasne reserve and then Caledonia ?
