As for me, I've always thought it would be fun to turn a 96-00 Civic hatch into a mid-engine, RWD sports car using an S2000 engine and a big supercharger.

There is one of these in Ottawa.

Over the years I have seen or helped build many small cars with small block Chevies in them. A 1952 MG a 1967 MG, 1955 Metroplolitan with a Olds 394 in it as well as many more. Put a 283 in a 1958 Anglia and the driver sat in the back seat. A friend of mine finally smacked it into a tree as he couldn't see straight with the front wheels off the ground all the time.  Currently at the London Cruise nights there are Fieros with Vet engines in them at the rear as well as some PT Cruisers from Toronto that have 440 Chryslers in them. EVen motorcycles with Chevies mounted in them sideways as well. THere are imports with Chevies as well which is starting to become very common. At most shows virtually all the real old vehicles that needed the engine replaced are running Smal Block Chev's but there still are a few exceptions of course.  :)

Another favorite Q-Car of mine.  The RenaultSport Clio V6, with a 250ish-hp mid-engined V6, RWD, and a six-speed manual.  Big change from the FF Clio, needless to say.

Unlike the Bentley-engined mid-engined Rabbit that VW recently made, this is (a) actually a production car, and (b) didn't handle like total garbage.

First version was quite tricky, with a couple of journo's binning the press cars!  :rofl2:  Second version was much better, although still takes quite a bit of skill to master.  I think they are a great example of how some manufacturers can still be innovative in a time of jellybean euroboxes, I agree, great work indeed.

Especially a debaged one with some IPD software and a few go fast goodies. Just ask my neighbour with the Porsche Boxster. ;D

Boxsters were never about straight-line speed though...now if your V70R could turn like a Boxster, then I'd be impressed ;)

So true but I have enough car lengths that I can be very liesurely around the corners. We have traded a few times. I would love a Boxster....

I met a guy from Vancouver that had a mid 90's Mercedes E-Class wagon.  Looked bone stock except for some mildly larger wheels/tires.  Under the hood was a fire-breathing AMG V-8 that only began its life as an AMG engine, but then had a supercharger added and many other go-fast goodies.  The upshot is that his car went from a nice 217hp wagon to a 500hp monster that was capable of making Viper drivers wonder "why am I not pulling away?"

To add insult to injury, he added some diesel emblems.

I would love to have something similar.  A pedestrain BMW or Mercedes wagon with AWD and 700hp.

Brabus Bullitt Black Arrow.  Ignore the paint and the bodykit upgrades; the drivetrain easily could fit into a stock current-generation C-Class, even the wagon, I'm sure.  And that drivetrain?  A twin-turbo V12 making 730 horsepower and 974 ft-lbs.

Can you actually channel all of that in 1st gear?

Might as well make the earth rotate backwards.

They claim 0-60 in 3.9 seconds, so clearly there's either power-limiting or massive wheelspin at play.  Now, 50-70mph roll-on acceleration time?  Probably 0.2 seconds or something.

Can it actually turn?  The last Brabus car tested on Top Gear (an SL) simply couldn't handle the power...  I'm no fan of AMG (they strike me as a muscle car group - drop big power in and leave it at that), but AMG at least recognizes the limits of a vehicle's ability to put down power.  Brabus can make the power, but they seem to have trouble making use of it...
