According to R&T the 370Z will be 35k+ in the US.  That's a big jump from the current 350Z pricing.

If true, that might suggest that Nissan wants to move the Z more upscale and fulfill the rumours of a 240SX replacement to slot in below the Z.  If Nissan were to build and sell a ~270HP coupe with a turbo and RWD, and price it to compete with the MazdaSpeed3, Cobalt SS, and Cobalt SRT-4, I think it would sell.  And moving the Z more upscale means less overlap - a $25k 240 and a $28k Z would be silly, but a $25k 240 and a $35k Z makes sense...

Still, I agree, that's a big jump in the price of the Z.  What else is this car getting besides a bigger motor to justify the jump?  An actual interior?  :D

I suspect the main chunk of the price jump would be the elimination of the base model (which doesn't make much sense if there's a cheaper turbo four model built off the same platform).  The new platform would cost a bit more, as new platforms generally do, and a nicer interior might add a grand, but stuff like a limited-slip differential, (defeatable) traction control, cruise control, maybe even Brembo brakes would now be standard on the 370Z instead of available only on higher trim levels.

I think it would make sense to have a few 240Z turbo models and then three models of the 370Z: a "Grand Touring" 370Z (leather heated seats, Bose sound system), an "Enthusiast Package" 370Z (track-ready and about $34,000) and a no-compromises Nismo 370Z (the next fastest thing after a GT-R).  I'd offer three models of 240Z turbo as well: stripped model (cheap and no frills), Grand Touring, and Enthusiast Package.

Unrefined, maybe.  But the turbo JDM versions make bucket loads of power.   :skid:

I have no experience with the SR20 DET engine but I can say that the KA24 DE was not well suited to use in a sporty car at all. The KA24 was not eager to rev, when it did it didn't sound happy and it ran out of breath well before it got to the redline. It encouraged you to shift up earlier rather than later.

The KA24 would have been a much better match with an automatic transmission.

I was, of course, kidding with my original comment. I'm sure that a modern version of the 240SX would share absolutely nothing with its predecessor aside from occupying a similar market niche and having a FR layout.

^^^^In the last issue of Import Tuner, they put that myth to the test to see if the 240SX is the shizzle or not.  With and without turbos.  Turned out it's not the handling gem that it has always been bragged about.

I'm not surprised. The 240SX was light, about 2700lbs, but the chassis felt flimsy. My Miata feels more solid. I shudder to think what the 240SX convertibles must've felt like. (They were regular coupes that came off the assembly line in Japan then were shipped to California to have the roof cut off, no extra structural bracing was added at all IIRC.)

AFAIK Nissan's S-platform was fairly old when my 240SX was new some 15 years ago.

I think the latest pics look a bit better, I wonder what the pricing will be like...?

Car looks good.  Pricing doesn't.  A replacement 240?  Here's hoping.

Also in the news, Nissan announced a new unlimited warranty on all models, void if the key is turned to the "on" position or the car "driven".

Did Nissan do anything to increase the storage space? The new version seems shorter than the outgoing version which likely means no they didn't.

I had read that it is considerably shorter than the outgoing model (and as a result, lighter and presumably more nimble).  Looking at the front 3/4 view though, it looks kind of awkward and stubby to me now.  The headlights and tail lights are a little over-done for my taste too... still, I'll reserve final judgement until I see one 'in the flesh'.

I think it looks fantastic...  :D

Any chance Nissan will adjust Canadian pricing so it actually follows the US model?  In the States the Z is significantly less expensive than the G35.  Up here, not the case...  :/

Ahh, that would be nice... and I dare say would make the car far more attractive in my eyes too.  :)

I like the styling so far..but as Jeff said will reserve final judgement until I se one. The interior looks good but I do not like the left instrument pod being digital while the other two are analog, one or the other please.

I like it too, except for the placement of the digital pod; it should've been in the middle at least.
Now, put this design beside the Genesis Coupe, which should compete with, and see the difference.
