Saint John River Flood '08
« on: May 01, 2008, 01:19:25 pm »
It's been a bit of a rough winter, now all of that melt is moving south aided by about 100mm of rain that hit northern Maine and southern Quebec. Flood level is currently at 8.3M. Our house is at 10m so we should be OK. A lot of people around here aren't so lucky though.

Here are some pictures I took this morning.

On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last, and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron.

I was a lad back in 73, but my family drove from Fton to Jemseg down the old TCH during that flood....many miles down a road that was 6" to 12" in water...I think we were the last car before they closed it due to high water...I hear this one won't be quite so bad, but the son of one of my co workers lives on the northside, over on Ross Terrace....he emptied the basement, and moved out for a while....
My diesel car self-identifies as an electric vehicle.

Levels seem to have stabilized at the moment. Hopefully.

Hey, Big, just because we haven't had any anal types lately (and I'm watching the Pittsburg game, avoiding doing some budget pricing stuff for two or three of your co-workers), I'll point out this:

The river is the St John River
The city at it's mouth is Saint John
The county is St John

I knew about the city spelling (lived in Quispamsis for a couple of years), but never knew about the specifics of the river or county. Thanks for setting me straight!

Nice (in terms of quality) pics. I wonder who will be sneaking back sheepishly in the dark to get that pickup when the water level drops.
