Port Rowan to St Catherine's (140 km of back roads) and back. Had a tail wind going and head wind (although slightly less by time I returned) coming back.

4.8 L/100 going and 5.2 L/100 return. Cruise set at 90 kph, a lot of random OPP hiding in this area.

Nice! I love some good 90 km/h driving to bring down my overall average  ;D

The discussion of fuel economy is the icing on the cake.

I'm driving to Omaha next month and I'm going to set the cruise at 65 mph for the entire distance FOR LOWER FUEL CONSUMPTION.   :rofl2:

Lots of easy places to pass me, go ahead, be my guest. I don't even get upset.

It isn't the fuel cost that I'm saving, it is the speeding tickets. I see OPP all the time sitting around blind corners or over a crest.

Man, you are brave to endure constant low speed for so long. I can't....
And it's not the slow speed necessarily, it's the monotony that kills me.
Believe it or not, it would take me a bit of thinking setting up the cruise control.
I tried it in the Outlander and GTI over the years out of curiosity and boredom, but never in the BMW in more than 2 years I had it. I think BMW made it difficult to use it on purpose.

Honestly, would be curious to know what your driving could get a 1.4T Jetta down to. These 2019+ things are insanely efficient. My normal driving has newer ‘Rollas in the mid 7s combined and the Jetta in the high 5s. You’d be into the low-mid 4s easy.

Long time ago I am driving to Saskatoon cruising in the V70R about 160 km/h on a secondary, not a soul on the roads. Wife had been dozing but she comes too and says: "Can't you drive faster? This drive is so boring." Yes Maam  I can.  ;D Fuel economy above 200km/h was not great.  ;D

Maybe their more aggressive down that way? I know I've passed the OPP on HWY 7 while doing 100 & they never bother me. Same on the 417 here, cruising along at 120 & they leave me alone. Years & years ago I got busted on hwy 7 doing 115 & the OPP officer told me to stick with 20 over & they'd leave me alone

My buddies and I do LOTS of highway driving in the summer to go out to the mountain biking spots.  Multiple 400km return trips a week are not abnormal for us.  When we were in our twenties, we would go all out, driving 130km/h out there.  Since we've all at least turned 40, we've slowed down a lot, taking 10 extra minutes, but driving the speed limit, or perhaps 5 over, all in the name of fuel economy.  Every little bit helps. Savings go back into the bike budgets.

My Civic Si's lifetime fuel economy on the dash states 6.1L/100kms, and that's at least 60% city driving.  I think that's pretty decent.  Can't see it being worth going down to a 1.4T Jetta to get half a liter less per 100kms.

That would be fun to try. Once in Vermont I got my GTI below 5 while cruising some valley roads with the roof open.

Maybe their more aggressive down that way?

Yep. What else do they have to do in the sleeping country side.

Chatham is another area where you don't want to speed. I see more OPP over a 20 km area around Chatham than I would see driving London-Kingston.

Ya I don't get it either.   Is it more difficult in some vehicles than hitting a button to turn it on then hitting another button or stalk to set?  Any vehicle I've ever owned was that way.
