Having 2 bikes on the back of the CX-5 really bites into fuel economy, even though the it's a hitch mounted tray rack.  The bikes are tall enough that the 2nd bike juts out into the slipstream created by the vehicle.  Driving 2hrs each way to the Whiteshell, I normally average about 7 - 7.5L/100km driving at approx. 108km/h.  With one bike on, I get about 8L/100km.  Yesterday, with 2 bikes on, I was getting closer to 10L/100km.

That's wild, how fast were you going?

And was that measured at the pump?

Most of it was at 120 kph with the odd burst to stay out of the way of the crazies. There was about 50 km of secondary hwy at 95 kph.  I don't pump verify as I'm happy enough with the dash readout.

Drag can really change things. I've been running a roof box a lot this year which can add 2 L/100 depending on the wind.

Crosstrek is sitting at 7.9 indicated so far. Almost all puttering around the city. About 3 L better than the RX doing the same thing

One of our friends dropped in with his Rav4 hybrid he's had for the last few years, his overall indicated was 5.3!

Right?  His Sienna probably weighs twice as much as your Corolla, and has twice the frontal area.

Volt #4 sits @ 185,000 km, lifetime average shows 2.04L/100km, meaning a significant number of km done as EV.
Gone but not forgotten in chronological order: 2019 Volt, 2013 Volt, 2014 Spark EV, 2012 Volt and many others before...

Summer weather really reduces fuel consumption appreciably in the Yukon. This is my current tank after ~180 km and then after 488 km and this is mainly highway driving keeping up with left lane traffic on GTA highways!!. When I filled up after my last tank, the indicated consumption of 11.2 l/100 km was actually 11.6 l/100 hand calculated. Comparable winter driving with winter fuel and snow tires easily adds at least 1.5 l/100 km if not more.

They're no worse than my Pilot.  My wife is always questioning how people afford to fill up their trucks....then I tell her the bad news that our vehicles aren't really more efficient, just smaller tanks so she doesn't notice.

My last fill-up in my 2nd gen Acura RDX with a 3.5L V6. Mostly highway and with three separate runs to the grocery store.

755 kms on my last fill and 8.15L/100km. Not bad.

In my urban mixed cycles, the big GM trio is always in the 17's.

Mine is at 10.4 lifetime, 100% urban/short trips except for our New England escapade last fall, during which it got an 8.3. I bet you can go more than 500m out west without stopping in "urban" settings  ;D

Which is not a big penalty....most 3-row CUV, if people are being honest and actually hand calculating the consumption....are within 2-3 L/100km of that (not just eyeballing the computer while cruising at 110 on the highway).

Yup. Atlas V6 is the worst gas pig unibody in my reviews, but my Odyssey was mostly in the 14-16 range in town, albeit with less highway commuting than with the pressers (it fell at 10-11 when I commuted with it).

My only full-size truck presser to date was the Silverado with the small diesel, and even with 2 hrs of highway in there I got an 11. I bet I would send an F-150 or HEMI RAM in the 20's without trying.
