Drove a loop of 443km Today with my Saturn Sw2, mostly 112-115 + quite of few kick-down passing slow lane traffic

31.292L/443km => 7.064L/100km
$51.60 @ $1.649/L Reg, ~ 12¢/km
Gone but not forgotten in chronological order: 2019 Volt, 2013 Volt, 2014 Spark EV, 2012 Volt and many others before...

So, not to take anything away from the SW2, but that right there is the difference between a modern economy car and an older one from twenty years ago. Modern Corollas are doing 5L/100kms with more powerful engines.  8L/100km is in AWD compact CUV territory like my CX5 (7.8L/100km @ 120km avg speed on our 4500km.BC roadtrip)

That’s awesome, particularly as you did that in mixed driving and not all cruising at a constant speed.

You are right but I wasn't bragging, only reporting  8)

In fact, the Saturn -S- series (MY1991-2002 usa) economy car could be more considered as a 30 years old technology by now and obsolete by today's standard. My 2001 (last year build SW2) was manufacturered Sept 2000, so she has now 22 years!  :bday:

I got curious and had to look up my Protege5 and according to fueleconomy.gov I got a wonderful 10.7/8.4 L/100 (city/hwy). Must have been all those 130 horses.

My 2006 Mazda 6 wagon was rated 13.8/9.4 L/100. Holy :censor: that is horrible.

The P5 was surprisingly terrible by modern standards. I may have had only a few tanks in the 7's.

The bigger, heavier, more powerful Mazda5 that replaced it had better mileage on the highway.

I'm sure the short gears in the P5 didn't help especially on the hwy but did make it fun. Really needed an extra cog for hwy cruising.

The 6 wagon only came with a V6 right?

I easily got high 6s a few times through the mountains in my 5. And the 5 replaced mostly replaced the MPV although they sold side by side for one year in 2006.

I certainly wasn't suggesting you were.  Merely pointing out the differences between new and old - An SW2 would have been considered an 'economy family car' twenty years ago, so it's interesting to see how we have progressed.  Not only are modern cars more fuel efficient, but more powerful, too.  It's an interesting comparison, and I thank you for preserving such a car.

Figured I spent about $500 each way on fuel for our NB trip.

1300km using premium petrol while towing the 14' enclosed trailer.

Fueled up on the 31st, entered my slip into my Excel tracker.  Remarkably consistent driving the past couple of years in the Pilot:

2019 - 17,139km - 14.94 L/100km - $0.1684 fuel cost per KM
2020 - 17,232km - 14.43 L/100km - $0.1329 fuel cost per KM
2021 - 17,799km - 13.43 L/100km - $0.1694 fuel cost per KM

I tried turning on the green/eco mode in Feb or March of 2021, so that helped consumption this year.  It'll be on for the full year in 2022, so I expect slightly better overall mileage

Time for the 2022 update:

2022 - 11,623km - 13.70 L/100km - $0.2317 fuel cost per KM

Couldn't deal with the Eco setting being on, vehicle felt too sluggish in city driving.  Turned it off sometime over the summer (wish I'd made a note about the date).

Overall did a lot less driving in the Pilot, but I also put 4,097km on the BMW in 2022.  In 2021 I put 848km on that vehicle.  So in total I drove 2,897 fewer KM in 2022.

I don't look.  For my vehicles it's a fools game.  When I had the 2012 Camry Hybrid I looked constantly.  You tend to do that when your getting 6l/100km mashing it.

This accurately describes how I approach the Golf and the Highlander.

Golf is down to one decimal place, Highlander is >15L./100km.

Windsor ON - Fayetteville WV = 7.0 L/100
Fayetteville WV - Charlotee NC = 6.7 L/100

The 'Rolla has a 15cf roof box on top and one bike on the back (hitch). The fastest I set the cruise to is 72 mph (115 kph) due to the roof box but have hit 80 mph getting out of people's way. Otherwise, lots of twisty and rolling back roads where you are either on the throttle or the brakes.

Crossing the border they pulled me in and gave me and my car an x-ray. First time I've had that happen.

I don't really worry about it considering gas is much cheaper than beer.

2017 Acura RDX. I am usually on the highway or back roads and get 6.6l/100 to 7.2l/100 in the summer. Range is 705 km with fuel remaining in a 60.5 liter tank. Far better with this 3.5L V6 over the old Honda CR-V with a 2.0L I4.

2003 BMW R1150 GSA. 5.58l/100 on the Autobahn, 25.87L, 464 km. New record...$97.30 to partially fill a motorcycle.
What you won't find in my car is a coffee, cigarette and a cell phone. What you will find is a driver; imagine that, a driver in a vehicle. What an effing concept!
A car has to do more than just perform; it has to stir your soul!
A true driver's car does not have cup holders.

Our 2022 Q7 NS -> Ottawa this past Saturday. Not bad for a heavy SUV with a box. 3.0 V6 turbo.
