Diesel is king on the highway,

Hardly. :)

First photo is of my trip there. For the first 60kms I had the car in Charge Mode, which really kills economy. But I wanted the EV battery charged for when I arrived at my destination. Even so, 4.6L/100km isn't bad at all.

The trip back was in normal mode. 3.7L/100km. Not sure if diesel could touch that. All at 120km/h.

Prius is the new king...long live the king!! LOL [emoji38]

Self Driving module worked perfectly. Even stayed centered in construction zones (though I kept my hands on the wheel).

The third photo is my tank prior to fill up. 1.1L/100km and 3100kms

That’s pretty amazing.  If only you could get that kind of mileage in a fun manual car.

My Corolla is finally in the shop for the front bumper replacement. For a courtesy car, the shop gave me a 2022 Hyundai Elantra with 803 km.

I spent a little time driving it this morning and recorded the following fuel consumption.

At 70 km/h, 3.3L/100km
At 110 km/h, 4.5L/100km

Both excellent numbers.  There was a crosswind of 15 km/h, but it appears to have had little or no effect.

Interesting:

From about 2007 to 2021, Alberta retailers earned an average margin of around eight cents per litre.

This past week, it’s been closer to 35 cents per litre.

(For comparison, margins nationally are averaging about 15 cents).

“That’s the highest margin ever recorded and probably the highest margin in provincial history,” Tombe said. “We don’t have good data before 2007 to say that for sure, but it’s a good guess.”

As for crude prices, they were contributing about 90 cents per litre of gas back in early June. That has since declined to around 77 cents, and yet overall pump prices are higher now, he said.

Wouldn't mind if the feds controlled the price of fuel at the pump based on the price of crude.

But the gov't makes more money when we're raped at the pumps...soooo.....

Isn't most of the gas tax a fixed something cents per litre with a small percentage being GST and PST? And I think BC does fixed PST.

Yep..

GST of 5 percent and PST 13 percent.

So the higher the fuel cost, the more the gov't rakes in.

We landed late in Vancouver on July 5th and luckily the Avis guy waited for us as it was way past midnight. Our "full size" rental was waiting at the curb, a black 2022 Hyundai Sonata Preferred (aka the base trim with manual cloth seats). I always reset the trip meter when I get a rental, and here it had never been done, the 6,046 km trip being equal to the odo. With the fuel economy indicator being linked to the trip meter, the indicated 7,0 l/100 km was the car's lifetime average. Impressive for a car of this size, even more impressive for a rental car in a large urban area!

Hey Dent, did you check the engine? Just open the hood and make sure it's still there, the little light implies it might not be...

All the back and forth to the lake and the F150's hitting it's stride.  Seeing 11.5-low 12's on the regular at 110 kmh.  If only I'd drive 100 kmh I'd be in the 10's.  Average still comes to 13.5ish when all is said and done, but last 4-5 tanks have all shown 999km 'til empty (math-wise driven vs what's estimate to drive comes out to over 1000 km - not that I've ever seen an actual 1000 km on a tank - gotta pee and generally fill up at 1/4 or more...putting $250 HURTS!  :'().
