Short highway drive on Sunday.

Temp was -10 with a crosswind of 10 km/h.  The Corolla consumed 6.0L/100km.  Hopefully, fuel consumption will be lower with higher ambient temps.

I agree, but I expect better numbers in summer.

You forgot what speed you were driving. Makes a bigger difference. Still, winter temps and fuel don't help.

10kWh (52.1km) + 25.5L (423.2km) = 475.3 km
19.2 kWH/100 km + 6.03L/100km after battery depleted
≈ 112

Blended avg: 5.38L/100km  (25.5L / 475.3km)

A few numbers from some travelling we did a few weeks ago.

Cambridge - Algonquin - took back roads up to Barrie = 5.4 L/100
Huntsville - Cambridge - Got off at 89 and then back roads home = 5.8 L/100
Cambridge - Dundas - This route is my best case as it is slightly downhill and all back roads = 4.8 L/100

* All number from a cold start, winter tires, and using the car's computer.

Despite my lousy eco-score, in mixed driving, half highway.  :D]

Bit late to posting this, but last weeks trip to Ontario to pick up my Civic was pretty good real world comparison between two competing vehicles.  Going to Ontario my VW GLI averaged 6.6L/100kms, coming back my Civic Si averaged 5.6L/100kms.  The Civic only had 12kms on the odometer and was saddled with around 300lbs of extra cargo (136 beer and a set of winter tires and steel rims) that were not present for the GLI.

I’m keeping a keen eye on the fuel economy now in my normal setting back home.  My Golf R this time of year averaged low 9’s, my GLI averaged low 8’s, and so far the Civic is averaging even better than those, too early to reveal the full numbers as I have only driven 160kms since my first fill up back home.

Don't forget about wind as that can also make a difference especially on long drives. Of course there is no arguing that the Civic still gets better f/e.

Yeah I can’t really say if wind was much of a factor as both days were pretty comparable in that sense, but the GLI did deal with wet pavement for half the trip and some light rain.

Is that skepticism I hear?  I clearly posted pictures of the head unit readout.  Do you think I have the expertise to photoshop this and what exactly would be my motive?

Or more likely, those driving pickups don't bother to post in this thread.  You don't see me posting numbers for the Highlander!

My current tank is at 15.xx L/100km in the Tundra. Mix of city and highway. There. I did it.  ;D

*10.9kWh (64.2km) + 21.5L (394.0km) = 458.2 km
17.0 kWH/100 km + 5.46L/100km after battery depleted
*partial recharge ~10km / 1.4kWh
+5km/h posted limit, 2/3 highway

Blended avg: 4.69L/100km  (21.5L / 458.2km)

9.6L/100kms on my last fill of the CX-5.  That's my usual mix of shorter city trips interspersed with a few short highway jaunts to our local provincial park.  I fully expect that to get much worse in the winter - I'm expecting 12-13L/100kms during the winter.

Here's hoping we get 7.5-8L/100km on our BC trip (leaving tomorrow!!!  ;D )

What was the Mazda3 getting under similar conditions?
