My ride home wasn’t so miserly lol. I bought a Ford F-550 diesel 4x4 service truck. 4:88 gears, 2600 rpm at 110. I did get down to 16L/100km when I went through the mountains (lower speeds). It has 227 L of fuel capacity in two tanks for a reason I guess.

That's Tundra territory @ 110 km/h ..... BEST CASE on the flats.  ;D

The gearing is killing it. Still not bad considering what it is.
Yeah really for such a big unit it’s fairly reasonable. It’s a crew cab, 4x4, with 19.5” tires, and a big service body. I’d bet it’s close to 10,000 lbs or maybe a bit more.

I remember when these 6.4 powerstrokes came out. With all the emissions controls in place they were getting 12 mpg in F250’s.

I just returned home yesterday with the family from a 1800+ km round trip to Alberta.  Overall fuel economy was 10.6L/100km as per the onboard computer.  Four passengers on board and the hatch in the MDX was pretty much full.  Weather was the shits after the first day, lows near -25 and highs near -18.  When we got to our first destination it was +8.  Snowed/rained overnight so the MDX was iced over pretty good that morning, so there was some significant idle time.  Had lengthy bursts on the 570/564 (if you know Alberta) of 130-140km/h.  Fuel economy is not pretty at those speeds with the cross wind we had(13-14L/100km).  The one section from Banff to Calgary netted a 8.6L/100km, but speeds were fairly tame.

Careful the Alberta Sheriffs now camp themselves in speed traps on those secondaries. I got nabbed at 135 in the Ridgeline. Officer didn't like my reasoning that it was "fair game on these secondaries  ;D" Google maps has destroyed those roads as now they are more heavily travelled.  When I used to have the Volvo V70R I used to see the odd speed starting with 2 and would see a car maybe every 30 minutes. Now? The cops are behind every bush. FWIW a Volvo V70R pushing 200 km/h consumes about 20L/100km.

^ Good to know.  Saw one single police car the whole trip, on the SK side on our way home.

The 570 was definitely busier than I've seen it in years past.  Would still have openings of miles and miles without seeing a car though.  Mind you we traveled home on a Wednesday.

If before May 20th be advised Kicking Horse Canyon is closed. The bypass is scenic but a small little 2 lane with endless transports.  What route are you going into BC and where are you headed?

We're heading to Calgary for our first leg, then we'll be going from Calgary to Penticton on May20th.  Google Maps is showing me taking Hwy 1 to Sicamous, then 97A/97 down to Penticton.

Then back to Calgary on the 23rd.  I was tossing around the idea of taking the southern route back, via Hwy 3, then up Hwys 22 & 2 to Calgary, just for a change of scenery, but that will add an additional 2.5hrs of driving, and well, we'll be doing plenty of that during the two weeks we're away, so we'll probably just go head back to Calgary via the 97/TCH.

Hey you will be driving the first day of the opening.  If you can do it I would suggest the south route and add a day in there. Stop in Rossland/Creston or even Fernie. It's more driving but Highway 22 is beautiful. Add a couple days..

Filled the work truck today for the third time this week, and it's only thursday.  First two were just under $200.  Today the pump kicked out at $200.  First time it's ever taken $200. :P

Glad I did not get to review the RAM Rebel - my colleague's piece went live this morning, he got 21.4 l/100 km over the week  :P

My M240i is in the 7's so far... I expect that to change  ;)

You know my GLI is quite a good car, even if I haven’t exactly fallen in love with it.  It has been a good “bridge” vehicle from my Golf R to whatever fun vehicle I get in two years.  It always amazes me how good this car is on gas.  I mean it has almost 230hp, 0-60 in under 6 seconds, not exactly a small sedan and yet I get economy/borderline hybrid mileage on the highway.  This was a trip up to see my parents today.  Just me in the car, winter tires, manual, mostly highway but some town/city and secondary roads.

I think it’s fairly close,  but likely not 100% accurate.   I think on the highway I could likely get around 900kms on a tank of gas.

Holy :censor: those are good #'s.

My TDI was 7-8% optimistic so I corrected for it in the MFD by changing the coding.  It's bang on now.

5.5L/100kms in the Mazda on my trip to Dauphin.  Those are round trip numbers, so wind/elevation change wouldn't have been a factor, and calculated via Fuelly, so 100% accurate. I filled up last night before leaving this morning, so it's 99% hwy mileage, cruise set at 105.
