Fueled up on the 31st, entered my slip into my Excel tracker.  Remarkably consistent driving the past couple of years in the Pilot:

2019 - 17,139km - 14.94 L/100km - $0.1684 fuel cost per KM
2020 - 17,232km - 14.43 L/100km - $0.1329 fuel cost per KM
2021 - 17,799km - 13.43 L/100km - $0.1694 fuel cost per KM

I tried turning on the green/eco mode in Feb or March of 2021, so that helped consumption this year.  It'll be on for the full year in 2022, so I expect slightly better overall mileage

18.5L/100km indicated towing our enclosed double snowmobile trailer. A little worse than normal but not too bad considering the cold temps and high winds.

Filled up my GLI and headed on a 1 hour highway drive, traveling around 114kph.  On fill up the car gave a range of 690kms.  Got to my destination and I think it said 650kms of range remaining after just over 100kms of driving.  On the way back traveling the same route at the same speed, about half way back it was indicating 600kms of range left.  What was interesting was that number would go up and down 10kms over the final 50kms of driving and when I arrived it was saying 600kms of range left.

If I have a full tank, just myself in the car, perfect weather, on summer tires, on the highway going the speed limit, I think 900kms would be easy on a tank of gas and maybe even 100kms if you real!y pushed it.

That would be more than impressive. Considering a 50L tank, leaving 5L for safety, that comes out to 5L/100 (900) or 4.5L/100 (1000). Even if you ran it dry that would still be 5.5 L/100 (900) or 5L/100 (1000).

Over the holidays I prepped my Excel files for tax season, and noted that I only fueled the Audi on two occasions during 2021. Yet, it travelled 3,988 km. Lifetime avg still shows as 2.1 l/100 km.

I've been running Esso 93-octane in it. Wondering what'd be better between that or Shell V-Power 91 (because V-Power has zero ethanol content...)

Well not quite but close. Plus it will/might depend on the time of year.

I don't believe too much of what manufacturers tell me and certainly not what the government and media BS us with, so if possible, test it yourself.

Test Procedure:
Fuel hoses are sometimes shared between grades, therefore any fuel collected for the test was after fuel of that grade was used to fill my vehicle.
1000 ml graduated cylinder.
800 ml gasoline added.
200 ml dyed water added.
Graduated cylinder was shaken vigorously and then left to settle.

Note that Petro-Canada is not on the Top Tier list, but Shell is as well as a few others.
What you won't find in my car is a coffee, cigarette and a cell phone. What you will find is a driver; imagine that, a driver in a vehicle. What an effing concept!

Well, according to Fuelly, my last few fill-ups in the Mazda have been in the low 11L/100kms.  That's with mostly sub -20C temps, and mostly short trips - commutes to work 2.5kms away, etc.

That compares favorably to the beater Civic, which this time last year, was seeing mid 14L/100kms in similar conditions.

It compares especially favorably to the Tundra, which would be getting close to 25-28L/100kms at this time of year, doing short trips in cold weather.

I'm looking forward to taking this car on our road trip to BC, and really seeing what it can do on the highway.  I've taken the roof rack off it for the winter, and won't replace it until we get back from our trip, so I'll get a true figure of what the car is capable of.  I'm expecting (hoping) for mid-sixes.

I was 18.4 L/100km (calculated by hand) on my most recent tank....not horrific given I've been working from home, so it's all short trips shuffling the kids around or running errands in cold weather.  Probably never did a trip longer than 10km over that time.

Sorry, the Pilot.  Subaru has barely moved in 2022....maybe used a half tank in that.

Just filled up the BMW. Spent over $100 for the first time in any car I've owned. Only short trips of city driving in very cold temperatures means only 300 km to the tank.  :-X

Real-world fuel consumption
« Reply #4198 on: February 11, 2022, 11:53:56 pm »
My ride home wasn’t so miserly lol. I bought a Ford F-550 diesel 4x4 service truck. 4:88 gears, 2600 rpm at 110. I did get down to 16L/100km when I went through the mountains (lower speeds). It has 227 L of fuel capacity in two tanks for a reason I guess.

The gearing is killing it. Still not bad considering what it is.
