I still need to fill up my tank one more time to see how much fuel I’ve used the entire trip but I spent $632.56 to put in 473.85L of fuel to drive 1,786 km. That’s 26.5 L/100km. Great trip though. I was doing good on the way there doing 24-26 L/100km going 10-20 under the limit but going home I did the speed limit and did 29-32 L/100km. Then my wife drove from Calgary to Edmonton and going 20 under the limit she did approximately 24 L/100km, to be confirmed.

That's a long haul!  Well done.  How'd the Sequoia do towing the trailer?

I do think it would be cheaper to just get an AirBnb.
That is what I would do
It cost him about 16l/100km to tow a trailer ( not even has a TDI to get some place ;D )

Airbnb being cheaper than RV-ing, though, so not the point.

There is something to be said about sleeping in a bed that you own...you know who the last person was who slept there.  Plus you have all the amenities that you want/determine are important, as opposed to what somebody else deemed necessary.

RV-ing is about the experience, rather than saving money.

We used 1,124 litres of fuel driving 3,917 km to Utah and back with the trailer. Works out to 28.7 L/100km. And we drove another 675 km without the trailer while we were down there, using another 111 litres of fuel, for a non-towing average of 16.4 L/100km.

So, yeah, kind of crazy.  :-[

It might be cheaper to just rent a place while we're down there, but the trailer is just so nice to have. Like GBA said, it's our own bed and all our own stuff. And we like to bring the dog, too, which is easy with the trailer but a PITA otherwise.

I suppose it depends on how long you're staying, too.  if you're going to burn 1200L of fuel pulling a trailer round trip, but only staying for 1 or 2 nights, then yeah, it makes more sense to Air BNB it.

if, however, you're going to park the trailer for 2 weeks, then the trailer starts to make more sense.  It depends where you go, too.  Airbnb's and hotels in Banff can be expensive, but a campsite is the same price in Banff as it is anywhere else in the country.

^^ Right, of course. I think we spent 4 days driving (2 each way), but were still down there for 15 nights.

Second crazy thing is that campground fees were US$59/night.  :o  We could camp in the desert for free (loads and loads of people do), but the hassle of hauling water and everything else just isn't worth it. It's supposed to be a holiday.  :)

It's really nice to have the full hookups, and even A/C on the hot days so we don't cook the dog if we leave him in the trailer while we're out doing stuff.

I don’t mind spending the money to do family things, I hate it for commuting though. Next year we want to go to Disneyland and on the way stay at Yellowstone, Zion, and Lake Mead National Parks among other places.

What we’ll also use it lots for is going to my father in law’s place. We don’t like staying in his house but he has a huge and beautiful acreage for the kids and dog.

1st tank for the Mini: 3.86l/100km...amazing since it’s rated @8.7l - it’s unfortunate PHEV rates are complex for most people to understand and most websites don’t make it ‘easy’ for people.

The latest tank in the HL was 17.4L/100 km.  Again, all very short trips, most of them on winter tires.  Good thing it's been a month since I filled it up.

Taking it to a friend's cottage tonight.  About a 300 km round trip on 90 km/hr highways.  It should do a lot better.  I've also noticed less rolling resistance after putting the summer tires and putting synth diff fluid into it.

I've put about 1,800km on the Aston now in the past month or so. It still hasn't seen rain, and I'd like to keep it that way. I've been averaging about 14.5L/100km in combined driving with plenty of spirited jaunts. It really sounds demonic north of 4,000RPM so it's pretty hard to short shift and resist the sounds.

I've been running Esso 93-octane in it. Wondering what'd be better between that or Shell V-Power 91 (because V-Power has zero ethanol content...)

I do my best to not drive the 951 in the rain, so I get it... but that's more because I'm too lazy to wash it all the time  :o  It's been a great spring for it, I drive it, put it back in the garage & put the car cover on so it hasn't been washed yet this spring...  :P

Best tank in the Highlander.

13L/100 km, ~300km highway, 130 km city, 56L.

I figure the highway portion was around 11 L/100km. If not better since there was a long cottage road with slow speeds and several steep inclines that would just kill fuel economy.

That's not too bad, my JGC is currently sitting at 12.2 which has been mainly all city, haven't gone anywhere far with it besides Anderson Links a couple of times... actually haven't put any fuel in it since April 25th  :o  Only have traveled ~650km over the past 3 weeks with it  ;D

If there are inclines there are equally as many declines, no?  From my experience, that's a myth anyway.  Waaaay back in 20 eleven when we went to BC, my first Ecoboost got better on gas from Banff to Jasper, despite all the ups, than it had ever gotten on the flat prairies.  From Banff to Calgary, and then at 120 kmh instead of Icefields Parkway speeds, and back, it got better than it had ever gotten on the prairies at 110 or less.  Flat, is not where it's at.  Shoot, towing the camper I was seeing less than 20l per 100...here...30.  :P

I gassed up the Forester for the kid last night and she got an all-city tank of 12L/100km on the dot.

That’s pretty good for the old gal. The kid must be light on the throttle.
