Drove from my house in Ancaster to London about 115km.  Set the cruise to 110 km/h  on the Entourage.  On the way there I got 12.5 L/100 km.  No traffic.  On the way back same thing, no traffic, I got 11.4 L/100km.  The wind made all the difference today.  I wonder if I would have got in the 10's if the cross bars were off.

That doesn’t seem great but my Sienna got about that much this time of year. It did better in the autumn.

Trip to Vancouver, about 950 km round trip. I reset my consumption when I left and my mileage impressed me. 6 litres/100 km. I’m happy with that as my speeds were at times at 140 over the Coquihalla, but mostly 110 to 120.

That’s pretty good.

It's crap.  The V6 in the Hyundai is ancient, has never been fuel efficient.  The Pentastar in Grand Caravan would have done better.  But my wife was using it at the time.

Reliable isn't enough.  What NA V6 engine isn't reliable? Especially in the last 15 years.

More of just a simple statement.  I very rarely use the van, where it's just me, no other passengers, not towing, driving 99% highway for that amount of distance.  I was hoping for a bit better.

Is it paid off?  I don't know.  I used my LOC to buy it.  Over the years, pay off some of the LOC, then take more money out for other things, like a trailer, moving, house renos.  So who the heck knows!   :)

HEY!  My last fill up (and it was a big one at 104L) got me an average of 18.4L/100km.  Which is right on par with what the truck's indicated mileage showed for the tank. (I recently discovered that I could customize the various display screens with instantaneous mileage, trip mileage, tank mileage, and overall mileage...so I put all 4 in there).  That tank was mostly city, with a little bit of highway.  So, not bad.  It's also what the truck is rated for in the city.

MILEAGE IS GETTING BETTER  :D ;D :rofl2:

Another interesting little nugget of information:  I brought that tank down all the way to 1/8 of a tank.  So, pretty empty, right?  Wrong.  My truck has a 144L fuel tank, and at 1/8th of a tank, it took 104L to fill, meaning there was still an additional 40L in the tank.  I could have done an additional 217kms city, which is a crazy amount of reserve range.  The reserve on my Tundra is equivalent to the fuel tank size on some small cars.

Real-world fuel consumption

Haven’t been driving the highlander since I got back from Campbell Icefields so I haven’t filled the tank to get my total trip mileage.

The return of the snow had me take the old gal out. Filled the tank and was very pleasantly surprised at the economy for the complete trip.

Drove to Revy, picked up the kid, drove back to Golden, then out to Donald to the heli pad.

Then back to Revy to drop the kid, and back home through Golden. A lot of driving on the TCH which is mostly 90 and 100 zones which really helps keep consumption down in the suv despite the mountain passes.

Total trip economy a very respectable 9.3L/100km. I did drive the 110 speed limit on the divided highway sections in Alberta, which also helps. 120 or higher and that upright windscreen and grille really takes a toll.

I thought about taking the Corolla and saving quite a bit of carbon emissions but in the end I needed the space of the highlander even with just two of us as I had several large group gear bags plus spare equipment. I had to put down both sides of the rear seat backs!

We also drove in a bit of a storm from Donald to Revy on the going home part of the trip and the road sucked at Rogers pass so I wasn’t unhappy about having the very sure footed HL.

So roughly 565 km range at 104L fill-up?

Not bad!

That would have me sobbing. I don’t think I can own anything that consumes much more than 10L/100km highway.  On trips where the Highlander has been in the 12 range I felt bad about the amount of fuel I was using.

Especially if you're just hauling air  :o
I avg 15-16 L/100km with a load truck

yes, you've mentioned this a few times.

The downside is that you have to drive a Chevy, so....  ;)

Real-world fuel consumption

I still need to fill up my tank one more time to see how much fuel I’ve used the entire trip but I spent $632.56 to put in 473.85L of fuel to drive 1,786 km. That’s 26.5 L/100km. Great trip though. I was doing good on the way there doing 24-26 L/100km going 10-20 under the limit but going home I did the speed limit and did 29-32 L/100km. Then my wife drove from Calgary to Edmonton and going 20 under the limit she did approximately 24 L/100km, to be confirmed.

Your wife drove 90 in the 110 on highway 2?  Good for her!  I actually find it a much nicer drive to go a little slower on that highway. I can just sit in the right lane with the cruise locked at 110 and rarely deal with traffic. Pass the occasional person, but for the most part just watch all the mess happening in the left lane.

It’s far easier to drive at higher speeds on 16 going to Jasper. So much less congestion makes it a nice drive.

That's a long haul!  Well done.  How'd the Sequoia do towing the trailer?

I do think it would be cheaper to just get an AirBnb.
