Still got the Blizzaks on? Seems good.

They'll be on for a long time yet, thanks to trips to the mountains.  I was surprised by the mileage after a number of 15L/100km tanks, ugh.  That said, I am driving to Snow Valley right after rush fades off, and the drive is easy and smooth which really helps keep consumption down.  And unlike another Highlander owner on the forum, I'm not driving at WOT the whole time...   ;D
Easy to do when you're retired & have all that free time, us working stiffs gotta be WOT all the time to get places quicker, lol!!!

That's some impressive mileage still tho.

Do you really save that much time ?

Interesting fact, Cobourg to Kanata , a long 45 & 7 , 269 km, if you drive 416/401 it is 325 km
So a long 7 you can easily do 105 , without worrying about the cops

The speed limit is 80 though?  So the safe spot is 95. I think anything more is looking for a ticket.

And of course it saves time.  I mean, I can be at least two cars ahead of the guy I just cut off.

Doing 90 on Hwy 7 will take the same amount of time as doing 110 on Hwy 401/416. But you're also going to use way more fuel on the 401/416, not only because of the 20% increase in distance but also the roughly 20% increase in fuel use for the increase speed compounded on that distance for a total of 45%. So a compact car might use 13.45 litres of fuel on Hwy 7 and 19.5 litres on 401/416.

Indicated 6.2L/100kms for the trip from Regina to Winnipeg. That's with big squishy studded Firestone Winterforces mounted.

Whenever I have to drive to Ottawa, I opt to take 7 rather than the 401. It takes the same amount of time but is more efficient and less soul-crushing than the 401. It's more enjoyable no matter what I'm driving...

It would be nice if they add in more passing lanes on 7

^THIS!!!! I've taken both of them 100's of times over the past 25yrs. I enjoy 7, but get stuck behind a transport with a line of 8 cars & it's a pain! With the Porsche, no issue, drop it into 3rd & I get around them quickly, JGC not so much. On 7 I keep it at 100, and have no issues, 401/416 combo I'm at 122, no issues. I got nabbed on 7 about 20yrs ago doing 115, OPP told me to keep it to 20 over max, lol! Still gave me the ticket tho, facker!

Coming back from TO my go to route is to take 37 North at Belleville.  You get to bypass all the small towns and it's a nice mix of 401 and highway 7.

I think it's about 15 minutes longer. But the 401 suuuuucks so it's worth it.

Real-world fuel consumption

It’s the same reason I preferred the 170km long Hwy 97 drive from Kelowna to Kamloops at 90-100 km/h speed limits rather than the 207km long 97C (Okanagan Connector) and 5 (Coq) at 110-120 km/h speed limits. Get there in about the same amount of time, it’s much more enjoyable, and uses less gas. There are some passing opportunities (third lanes, broken yellows) on the windy road but not too many. If you pass one semi, you’ll catch another anyway but most of them are doing the speed limit. It’s always those motorhomes and Canadreams slowing things down.

Eventually that Canadadream makes it way along the TCH to Lake Louise and then north up The Parkway. A bit more than halfway to Jasper, they decide to camp for the night. They invariably pull into the Columbia Icefields campground, clearly marked "tents only."

It's a tiny campground with a rough dirt road that a motorhome or camper has great difficulty negotiating. After they struggle for a few hours to get their camper in a spot, Parks comes and gives them the boot.

The campground has a sharp left turn with an uphill and its developed a series of large holes in it. I always wonder if Parks leave that section so crappy because watching campers get hung up in it is so amusing.

12.7 L/100km from Edmonton to Innisfail averaging 105 km/h in the Sequoia. I love warmer temperatures and normal rolling resistance tires.

Because I was in Toulouse for 2 weeks, I left my car at home. Then the last couple weeks have only commute to/from work, so no autoroute. As a result I went an entire month on the tank of fuel : 730km . Average was in the upper 5s. Not bad for 205ch !

I know, but I have to rub it in, since you don't have it anymore...
