Tech Geeks? Cell phone/VCR
« on: April 22, 2008, 11:26:38 am »
Funny thing happened early hours of Sunday morning. I set the VCR on Saturday to tape at 7:30 a.m. Sunday morning. After rewinding back to 0000, the program was already in progress. VCR or network problem......don't know. Know I missed part of the program.

Later same day, looked at cell phone and the display was an hour behind the current time. I've had the phone reset and reprogrammed by the network (Virgin), and by Audiovox. It hasn't worked. Nothing in the manual. The phone is Audiovox 8615.

Any ideas? Thanks!

My guess is that the "Big One" happened overnight while you were sleeping and VI has moved west into another time zone.  Man, thats going to make my ferry ride on Thursday waaaaay too long   ;D

Wow, what a weird one.  Do you know anyone else with the same carrier/phone that you can compare too?  Have you had someone call your phone to see if that will re-set it?  Sometimes I find I have to do that with our cordless phones/call display units, they only get a time stamp from the system when a call comes in.

Good luck!

With the cell phone, it's likely a problem with the DST or the time zone.  Just see if you can turn DST on or if that doesn't work then choose a different time zone that would actually display the right time.

Wouldn't this past weekend have been the previous Daytime Savings weekend before the change? Sounds like it needs a software update.

VCR? Donno...

Trainman -- your thought of a move to another time zone is lovely, hey, maybe it was on Hawaiian time..........warmer than here. Enjoy your ferry trip, the best money (lots of it) can buy! ;D

Turns out it's not fixed. Was OK yesterday, today incorrect time...then flips to correct time. The thing is bewitched. Arrgh.

These days it is cheaper and easier to buy another phone or VCR.

I went to a video rental store today and couldn't find anything to rent on VHS tapes.   I guess it has been a while since I last walked into one of those places...

We're behind the times here in Victoria, home of newly wed and nearly dead.......'cept not so many newly wed anymore.

My original problem. Left home today w/cell displaying the correct. At the beach checked the time -- one hour back (again). Frustrating.

Does it go back to correct time when you are at home?

Are you staying on the same network at home and on the beach or do you end up roaming at the beach.

Example:  Canadian cell phone roaming on France Telecom while on the north France channel coast. Climb up to top of Eretat cliff and suddenly we are roaming onto UK Orange which of course prompts a new time display on the phone. coming back down and phone automatically goes back to France Telecom when UK signal weakens.

The most radical revolutionary will become a conservative the day after the revolution.

Good question. Might be roaming at the beach, but then would go to Washington time, which is the same.

No, it stays an hour back. To get the correct time, I have to turn it off, and leave it off. When turned back on, usually next day, the correct time is displayed. I wondered if it was some electro-magnetic thing, my neighbour has gone all "wireless", but she did that long before my phone went stupid. My network CSR people forwarded the problem to the guru's higher up. Not heard back from them yet.

How do you tell if the battery needs to be replaced?
