Fair enough.  What do you LIKE, then?  Gangsta rap?  Country?  Metal?   ;D

From my days in the radio biz, I found that many stations used the Cancon regs as a maximum amount of Canadian music to play as well as a minimum.

For example, if the station had space for 8 current Canadian hit tunes in their rotation and, one week, there were 10 great new Canadian songs, the station wouldn't make room for all 10.  They'd stick with the 8.  At the time I was at CITI-FM here in Winnipeg, the regs stated we were to play 20% Cdn music.  If the percentage ever hit 22%, we got hell from the management.  Deplorable, if you ask me.

I'm a big fan of Bryan Adams, love all his songs.

Gowan - "Strange Animal"

I listen to pretty well anything except "Gangsta Rap" and Country.  My top 25 most played in iTunes has got Kim Mitchell, Fergie, Queen, The Offspring, Sean Kingston, The Knack, The Chili Peppers, and U2 on it, just to name a few.

Billy Talent is another decent Canadian band.
I saw Stars in concert a couple weeks ago - they're a phenomenal band out of Montreal.  Very mellow alternative/punk sound...  highly recommend them, though they might not be for everyone.  :)

I really like Stars, but classifying them as punk is nuts.

+1 on Billy Talent, forgot all about them when trying to recall Canadian bands.

I can't hold it in any longer, I CAN'T STAND The Hip. The worst part is, just about every station plays them.  They are a poor man's version of REM which are not one of my favourites either.

The good'ol 'Beaver Hour' on Sunday mornings! Where they would play a lot Canadian artists to meet quota, burying them on Sunday morning.

I really have no idea what any of these terms mean...  in iTunes Stars come up as "Alternative & Punk", for what it's worth...  :)

Nope, dropped into a vat of prog rock as a child.

I always seem to forget about Billy Talent, too.  But after remembering them for this thread, I decided to pick up their two albums...  not a bad sound.  They don't remind me of anything off hand, which is cool.

I'm not a big fan of the Hip either...  nothing against them, just never really got into their stuff.

Hot Hot Heat is another Canadian band I adore (from Victoria, actually).  Their music has been described as "a relentless rockathon with choruses that are anthrax-level infectious, driven by a killer keyboard-and-bass combo and—get this—lyrics you can relate to."  Their latest CD isn't quite as good as their earlier efforts, but they're a lot of fun and come highly recommended.  Certainly not "classic", though.  ;)

Good answer! Heavy guitar blues/rock (Johnny Winter, etc) and progressive rock (anything from genesis with P.Gabriel to Al DiMeola) when I grew up.
My wife used to work with Gord Downey's father in Kingston at city hall (she didn't know who he was) and during a boardroom conversation mentioned how she thought the Hip was total crap...he wasn't amused)

Ouch!  That sucks when that happens.  I'm sure everyone has had a couple of those in their life.  Give your wife full marks for calling a spade, a spade, though.

For sure, Gabriel era Genesis is one of my all-time favourites.  Selling England by the Pound would an LP I would take with me on the proverbial desert island.

Isn't "Ohhh, What a Feeling(What a Rush)" by the 5-Man Electrical Band and not Crowbar?
