I disagree in regards to classics, they don't have to be from the 70's

Bands that have produced recent classics, that I don't necessarily like are:

Nickelback - "How you remind me"
Our Lady Peace - several tracks from "Clumsy" <- Actually, I do like these guys.
Alnis Morisette - "You Oughta Know"
Barenaked Ladies- several tracks from "Stunt"
Kon Kan- "I Beg Your Pardon"
Canadian Bands that I think are/ were good.

Arcade Fire
The Tea Party
I Mother Earth
Sam Roberts
The Spoons
Econoline Crush

Also, have to mention Skinny Puppy, the biggest influence on a guy named Trent Reznor.

Yes a classic song doesn't have to be from the 70s but when someone uses the word classic in regards to music IMO  the song  has stood the test of time ... something that transcends time.

Clumsy is a great album.  I think Spiritual Machines is their best, though.  In any event, great band.  :)

There is a town in north Ontario,
With dream comfort memory to spare,
And in my mind
I still need a place to go,
All my changes were there.

Blue, blue windows behind the stars,
Yellow moon on the rise,
Big birds flying across the sky,
Throwing shadows on our eyes.
Leave us

Helpless, helpless, helpless
Baby can you hear me now?
The chains are locked
and tied across the door,
Baby, sing with me somehow.

Blue, blue windows behind the stars,
Yellow moon on the rise,
Big birds flying across the sky,
Throwing shadows on our eyes.
Leave us

Helpless, helpless, helpless.

I think this thread should be "Classic Canadian Songs" without the "rock"   as many of the songs mentioned are for sure not rock and roll.  Jane Siberry & Sarah McLachlan for example.   If they're  in under Rock songs then where is Leonard Cohen  ???

Agreed! Nevermind that I refuse to acknowledge Jane Siberry as Canadian... ;)

And don't just list good bands; give their best song.

I am enjoying this as there were quite a few selections that I didn't realize were Canadian at all.

I quite enjoy that tune.  Jane's concerts in the mid-80s were magical.  However, they were not rock by any stretch.  :)

How many hit songs did Brian Adams Have?
Summer of 69, run to you, Heaven ...

And who could forget another classic song by Corry Hart - I wear my sun glasses at night. (pop rock, I know)
Tragically Hip - New Orleans is sinking and many others

Not classic bands but I like:

Billy Talent
Sum 41
Finger Eleven
I Mother Earth
The Tea Party
Our Lady Peace
Matthew Good

Nickelback (I personally don't like them but many do)
In a world where the dead are returning to life, the word "trouble" loses much of its meaning.

As a teenage boy exposed to that video, I have been scarred for life. Beach videos were supposed to be good things, not that!

Stodge, I also liked Brighton Rock for a nice hair-metal fix. And speaking of Helix....
