I want to leave Winnipeg
« on: March 31, 2008, 07:40:35 pm »
The City of Winnipeg made national headlines in the past few days.  The reason?  Rampant, deadly crime.

Gang violence and vehicle theft are merely the tip of the iceberg when it comes to crime in Winnipeg.  Add to that, City Hall buffoons who actively discourage private development and job creation and you have a recipe for a irreversible decline and fall.

I want out.

From listening to news it seems like crime is up in other large centres as well like Vancouver and Toronto.

In other news... been house hunting in Winnipeg with an eye on a summer move.

The nice thing Wink, this 'stuff' happens in the same neighborhoods all the time. Stay away from those neighborhoods, out of gangs, and away from all-night-drinking parties.

Last year, I moved from Caledon, Ontario, which has the lowest crime rate in Canada, to Scarborough, which does not.

Yet, I am free of unwanted perforations and I still have all my stuff.

Higher percentage native population and crime rates go hand in hand.

I don't think it's any surprise that the native populations in Winnipeg tend to live in the poorest areas which tend to have the highest crime rates. Same for Regina and Saskatoon.

I think it has more to do with poverty than being native, but I agree that it seems to go hand-in-hand.
