Pity they couldn't squeeze a 6mt in to it.   One would hope that the new engine gets a few more horses, 10 more would be perfect but the current one is adequate with a manny tranny.

Looks ok... just like it should, a slight face lift on the old one.  Now it does look as if they have lowered the roofline a bit at the rear which never helps the carrying capacity... we will see.

Looks great.  Still waiting for Honda to cram a bigger engine into it and call it a Type R, though.  ;)

I would like to buy a Honda (or Toyota) but they just can't make a car to my liking.
The new Fiesta (Verve) 5-door would be my choice, despite being a Ford.

I like it, they've gotten away from the tiny tires. Dash is a step backwards though IMO, they just couldn't help funkifying an excellent, straightforward design.

Hopefully it's a little higher off the ground than the old model. That and available stab and I'll be looking hard at this to replace the truck. It was fun trying out all the different storage/mode configurations in the existing Fit the other day. That 'magic seat' system is brilliant.

I liked the previous dash and centre console.

It's supposed to have an improved driver seating position and ~115hp for a bit more oomph on the highway.

I hope my girlfriend will like the (active?) head restraints, as she hates the ones in the current generation.

Not sure I want the engine in my lap, though. So many of the new cars today seem to be designed with a huge dash. Can people really see out properly?

Definitely worth a test drive.  8)

Pick up the latest Siphon magazine.  Siphon is a performance magazine for "micro-cars".  In it, they test a new supercharger on a Fit.  50% increase in power with only a 3MPG fuel penalty!

The new Mazda2 would be my personal pick.  Didn't think much of this restyled Honda Fit a few months ago, but looking at it again, it actually is quite a nice, though mild, redesign.

Is there supposed to be a glass roof/sky light option?

Pretty good results - I'll have to take a look next time I'm at Chapters.  A Fit with ~160hp would be a lot of fun, I think.  :D

Mazda2 is/when it gets here will definitely be worth a look.  But IMO the Fit is the best of the current generation, although I think the Accent is a very nice package as well (interior is a letdown, though).

The dash looks alright to me, but I'd like to see the shifter lifted up to dash-height like the 2002 SiR:

You can definitely notice the NA crash bumpers in this pic:

Here's the ROW model for comparison:

From the NY Times article on NY Auto show

The tiny Honda Fit will also grow up a bit when an all-new 2009 model reaches showrooms this fall. A new 1.5-liter 4-cylinder engine makes 118 horsepower, 9 more than before.

Looks like tpl gets his wish - well almost, 1 hp short of perfect

yep.   a few more horses and some sticky rubber.   Now to reduce the boost from that electrical power steering and sooner or later one has a little rocket ship that can go and play with Miatas and so on but can ALSO take stuff to the dump and bring back renovation bits from Home depot.  Perfect.

Maybe they should slap a turbo on it and call it the Honda Fit TypO. Did I spell that right?

Man I must be tired.

I thought it would be called the Honda FitteR.  ;)

Looks like a pretty awesome upgrade.  I know three people with current gen Honda Fits and they love the vehicles completely.  They aren't really car buffs and all they want is a efficient, practical, no-nonsense commuter and grocery vehicle.  This looks even better.  Can't wait to see one in person.

Nice review.  The current Fit with the manual transmission has plenty of power (I found it seemed quicker than the Yaris or Versa), so I can only imagine a few more ponies will just make it more fun (and likely a bit better on the highway).  The next-gen Fit will very likely be my next car, so I'm very pleased with the direction it seems to be going in.

That dash seems a little odd, though...  I'll reserve judgement on that one until I can get a driver's perspective on it, though.  :)
