2009 Fiesta: pizza delivery boys everywhere rejoice
« on: February 14, 2008, 10:07:30 pm »
And yes, this is a production model, not a concept.

And it gets even better:

(1)  It's actually the same size, and lighter, than the previous (Euro-only) Fiesta.  Dorin should be ecstatic.

(2)  Knee airbag, just for ArticSteve.

(3)  Tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel

and the best...

(4)  Designed in Europe, and just built and sold in Europe for the first year, but this car is coming to North America (to be both built and sold here).

Agreed...and thank-goodness.  There just might be a reason Ford of Europe is doing better than Ford NA...better product!

I've got a little 5-year old...Might I be saturated with Transformers or do see a little "Autobot" centre stack thing going on...

For the past half-hour I was staring at the Fiesta and Kuga pictures on the Autoblog; incredible good looking cars. I like every detail on them so far. I wonder how much of the Euro designs will cross the pond. I know it's supposed to be virtually the same vehicle (sedan only though), but I won't believe it until I see it. Too many challenged Ford execs still on board.
My choice would be the 5-door hatch though, which is the one we are not getting here.

Wow.  It might just be the colour, but it reminds me a lot of the Mazda2.  Please Ford, give us an SVT/RS version...

Lets hope they can build them here better than the early Focus models.   :)

What a heck, they have 2 years to learn how to build them in the US as we are not going to get it until 2010.

Nice job...they have managed to make an economy car not look cheap.  This is an important thing...I mean obviously it won't have the bells and whistles but you've got to make it look decent.  This is very cool looking!

Finally, the euro look, feel and - with any luck - build quality -  we've been demanding from Ford for quite a while now.  About time too.

Yup!  The Fiesta and the Mazda2 do indeed share the same platform.

I think you formally renounce the right to criticize companies for first-production-year foibles when you buy yourself a Volkswagen.

Anyone else thinks it looks like Peugeot From the front. ???

Read more about the Fiesta: http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/news/autoexpressnews/217407/ford_fiesta.html

Also the Fiesta looks very similar to the Ford Ka.  :)

First look: next Ford Ka
14 February 2008

• Computer-generated images
• Styling taken from Verve concept cars
• On sale in December from £7500

These computer-generated images show how the next-generation Ford Ka could look when it is launched later this year.

The Ka takes styling cues from the Ford Verve concept cars, which have indicated how the next Ford Fiesta will look, which is also going on sale this year.

It shares its underpinnings with the Fiat Panda and 500, and Ford insiders say the ride will be improved. Road and wind noise should also be lower than in the present model.

Engines will also be shared with the Fiats - that should mean 63bhp 1.2-litre and 100bhp 1.4-litre petrols, as well as a 75bhp 1.3-litre diesel.

A performance ST model is likely to follow, using the same 135bhp 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol engine that will power the Fiat 500 Abarth.

We should see the new Ka for the first time at the Paris motor show in September, and it will go on sale in the UK before Christmas.

More about the Ka. http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/news/autoexpressnews/217134/ford_ka.html

Will a tiny hatch really do all that well in the US market though?

I really like this new Fiesta. It was due to be produced here in Brazil and exported all over the Americas, but Ford decided to send it to Mexico IIRC.

Too bad here in Brazil we will get a version with 13" stamped steel rims, plastic covers, no fancy interior, etc. That would be necessary to keep the price here, unless Ford makes it like in the pics and it will then enter into another category, the same as the Fiat Punto I guess.

Theoretically, it should sell as well as Yaris or Fit hatch or who knows, even better. It all depends how it's going to be when it arrives here. Built and marketed smart, it should sell.
Based on the design, I know I would highly consider any new Euro-Ford model, but until then, I wouldn't set foot in a Ford dealership with their current line-up.

You have a good valid point there, young lawyer.   I'll have to retract my statement.   :)
