I like the exterior way better than the one of the new Camaro. Real classy.

 :iagree:

Assuming the Camaro pictures flying around the web are representative of the production design. And Chrysler used soft materials that are way nicer than the Mustang rock hard plastics.

Why is it that people fawn over the R8 but condemn the Challenger as a gas-guzzler, when the R8 is no worse for the environment (better, I suspect) and capable of carrying four people (unlike the R8)?  Just curious.  I'm with most people that the R8 is a cooler car, but I don't understand why pony cars always get flamed by environmentalists while supercars don't.

I guess because for every R8 on the road there will be 250 Challengers?

So it's okay if a small number of really rich people guzzle gas like it's candy, but it's not okay if a larger number of middle class folks do the exact same thing?

I just don't get the argument "I don't care if Joey Trust Fund drives around in a 10 mpg C63 AMG, that doesn't make me mad, because not many people can afford to do that."  Isn't there just as much personal culpability for him as there is for Joe Six Pack?

The humour seems to be missing in these posts.  ;D

There is a class of people, many many of them who firmly believe in "do what I say, not what I do"  Every day one sees them ( Al Gore and his enormous mansion being the classic example) thinking its ok if THEY go to Sierra club meetings in a Hummer or fly to Bali to discuss climate change  but the lower orders should really take the bus and turn the a/c down.

My post was poking fun at your post Mitlov,  then the humour seemed to evaporate.

You are of course correct IMHO
The most radical revolutionary will become a conservative the day after the revolution.

That's not the question you asked.  You asked about the R8, which is a supercar - not a daily driver.  I agree that one's daily driver should be reasonably efficient.  But I have little problem with people owning low-mileage toys that get driven once a week...  everyone needs a toy.  :)

A rich man driving an AMG C63 and a middle-class man driving an SRT8 are on the same scale, though.

I still like the Camaro better but thats personal taste, Its time we had some of these retro toys back again as us Raceboys need them to have fun with. They will probably put the big Hemi in it and make it a real screamer but it will give very decent fuel milage when not being driven agresively. Even the Vett does well over 30 miles a gal now which is fairly decent for a high HP vehicle. These will be rather expensive vehicles but in limite supply I would imagine as they will not sit around the lots very long at all. They will sell quite well.  :)

You don't think there are people who use supercars as daily drivers?  There's a guy in Medford who drives a Gallardo to work (I'm sure he's some sort of surgeon).  An R8 has more daily-driver practicality than a Miata does, and tons of people use Miatas as daily drivers.

::)  Of course there are a few.  But if you look at the classifieds for high-end automobiles, the majority of them have very low-mileage.  Your average Lamborghini or R8 driver does not use it as a daily.  Your comparison with the Miata is flawed because the people who daily drive Miatas tend to do so because they can't afford a Miata and another daily driver, or because the limitations of the Miata as a DD are livable for them.  Anyone who can afford an R8 can afford a proper daily driver...

I do not understand the point of have a daily/ commuter car
I want to drive the car I like the most, no matter what the traffic is like.

So you'd drive a Ferrari to work in the snow, leave it parked outside all day, and let it be eaten by snow and salt?  To each his own, I guess...

Hey Barrie:

The 2008 Vette is rated at 16 City and 26 Highway at best.  Good luck getting even that.

26 mpg (US gallons) = 31 mpg (British gallons)...maybe that's what he was talking about?

Yeah the" highway mileage " is calculated at 70 kilometers per hour in  a lab. I'd like to see it get that.

Wrong, avg speed is 77 km/h ;D
Simulated highway course
Highway fuel consumption ratings are based on a 12-minute simulated highway course of 16 km with no stops. The top speed during the test is 96.5 km/h, and the average speed of the test is 77 km/h, reflecting an urban-highway driving environment.

77 Klm's per hour is not that fast and definitely is City driving speeds for sure but the constant highway speeds of say 120 to 130 Klms perhour should give better milage I would suspect as the gear ratio will be in the lowest ratio at the top end which quite often is a overdrive. With the engine virtually loafing along in the lower RPM's I would think they would do better milage then what has been posted by the Gov. I have never witnessed lower RPM's bring you higher fuel milage ever.  :)
