CTS coupe revealed
« on: January 14, 2008, 11:33:56 pm »
Okay, it's still in "concept" form, but it's clearly production-ready, using the mechanical underpinnings and interior of the 2008 CTS.  The one mechanical change is talk of a 2.8L turbodiesel in addition to the 306 hp V6.

Other than that, it's a style thing, plus maybe slight advantages in handling due to a more rigid body and shorter overall length.

Dash is basically the same as the CTS sedan.  The rear seat, like most Caddies and unlike most coupes, looks truly comfortable.  Though I hope that the bumblebee interior is a concept-only thing.

(The latter has a very attractive cream interior, but I figured I'd clogged this up with enough pictures already).

I love the look of the CTS, but I don't know about the Coupe.  The sedan is beautiful.
If I was 45 to 50 years old, the sedan would be number 1 on my list.  I applaud GM for the CTS and STS.  Great work, I hope they keep it up.

Not into the design as much as the CTS sedan.

I like the front and side (first 2 photos) but not the rear / rear quarter. Something about it is off. But no matter still pretty good.

The fat rear end gives it a wider stance then the other cars in this segment to hold the power down if they put the V8 design in it. That would be very nice if they did IMHO. Not every design is the car of everyones dreams but this is very close to what a lot of folks would like I feel. With the extended warranty that GM supplies they will be a good deal if the price is right on them as well. GM is the No. one car Comapny for a good reason and both the warranty and quality they are now producing are some of the reasons why they are.  :)

???

(1)  There's been no mention so far of a V8 in the CTS coupe.

(2)  There ARE powerful V8s (over 400 hp) in the Lexus IS-F, BMW M3, Audi RS4, and especially the MB C63 AMG, and none of them have anywhere near the rear-end bulk of the CTS coupe.  Not even the 500 hp, V10 BMW M6 has nearly that bulky of a rear-end.

^^^^The coupe should still be on the CTS sedan platform, which would mean same track width usually...

Peak torque for that M6 is only 383 lb ft vs. 550 for a Cadillac 6.2. Quite a big difference if we're talking about needing a wider rear track to put power down.

You get sprung

Looks like it will happen:

I thought it looked a bit weird the first time I saw it, but I've really warmed up to the look since then. The A5 and 335i coupe have some competition now.

It will probably be the V6 to start with or even a diesel maybe but the V8 will be not all that far behind in a year or so. Somebody will stuff one in and really have a nice vehicle when they are done.  :)

I wonder how much a CTS-V Coupe would compete with the Corvette and XLR, through.  I can see GM not producing a V variant based on wanting to keep the XLR it's halo car...

TWO DIFFERENT cars complete
XLR is a 2 seater, with a retractable hardtop, it would be comparable to a BMW Z8 ( not writing that XLR=Z8 )
CTS-V Coupe is 2+2 would be like a M3
