If my local dealer offered to wash it after each service, I might consider a CC.

The problem is not the product, it's that intangible touchy feely customer service that is lacking at VW North America.

I get my Jetta washed at my dealer when I go in for service ;)

I pay $6 to get it washed instead of having twice that amount included as part of an "oil change."

Passats need to be priced in the $25-35K range, just like the Accord and Camry.  I thought someone at VW would notice the massive success that the City models have been and realize that people just won't pay a massive premium for a VW.  But, oh, no, they don't seem to notice that the buying public in NA just don't think that Audi is the "starter" brand for the "premium" brand of VW...

The dealers do, but it seems VW HQ doesn't.  ???

They cannot lower the price significantly. Simple as that. The car is significantly larger than a 3/C/A and is built in Europe just like them with the exchange pressure. They don't make money on their vehicles in North America as it is. And VWoA hasn't until now designed vehicles for this market, so they're stuck with slightly premium priced (mainstream sedans are high $30's now fully equipped) vehicles with limited allocation on models that offer good value so that the company can appear to be competitive without losing too much on each unit sold by importing restricted volume.

These photos are a bit fishy But they give you and Idea. :)

Volkswagen Passat CC measures 4,795 millimeters in length, which is 30 millimeters more than the classic Passat. With a width of 1,856 millimeters (an extra 36 millimeters), the Passat CC already ranges in the competitive field of the upper mid-class. Similar to its width, its track width dimensions were also modified. In front it is 1,533 millimeters (an extra 11 millimeters), and in the rear 1,557 millimeters (an extra 16 millimeters). The new Volkswagen measures just 1,790 millimeters in height (lowered by 52 millimeters) – very sports car like.

Volkswagen will be offering the Passat CC exclusively with highly advanced direct injection engines worldwide. The gasoline engines (TSI and FSI) fulfill the EU-4 and the American ULEV2 emissions standards. The EU-5 that becomes law in 2009 will be satisfied by the turbodiesels (TDI) offered in Europe.

VW Passat CC pricing will be under $27,000
Posted on: February 14th, 2008

In an effort to stay strong in the U.S. and an ambitious plan to increase sales to 800,000 by 2018, Volkswagen is looking to offer its models to the North American market at cheaper prices. When we saw the Volkswagen Passat CC at the 2008 Detroit Auto Show, we were afraid that if pricing was over $35k, it may follow in the ill-fated footsteps of the Phaeton.

In a recent interview with Automotive News, CEO of Volkswagen Group of America, Stefan Jacoby, said that the Passat CC will be priced below $27,000. The CC is supposed to fit between the regular Passat at the upcoming Phaeton that may come back to the U.S. with a smaller-wheelbase and diesel options.

The Passat CC lineup will start with a 2.0 TSI unit that produces 197 hp and a 3.6 FSI V6 that produces 276hp. Both engines are mated with a 6-speed automatic Triptronic transmission. The Passat CC 3.6 V6 FSI is offered with 4MOTION all-wheel drive as standard equipment and has the ability to do 0-62 mph in 6.6 seconds.

Jacoby is leading the charge to turn Volkswagen around with vehicles more suitable for U.S. buyers. He is also pushing for the Polo to make it to the U.S. along with a production version of the Space Up! blue concept.

So with a 1.15 ratio, starting at CAD$31050, deal or no deal?

What are we talking in terms of features on the base model ie leather, sports suspension (does one exist?), roof, and a gadget? :)

I would think 1.15 might be hopeful, Freight/PDI seems to be about double here (generalizing I know).

Sure, but what does the extra bucks buy besides the style?

Not much more.
It's like comparing the E550 vs CLS550.
You pay 10% more, lose 4Matic, bump your head when you get in/out of the rear seats, but look "cooler" and can claim you have a coupe instead of a sedan.  ;D

$27,500 US will be ~$33K here.  It HAS to be priced above similarly equipped Accords and Camrys.  (Camries?)  It is the "VW Way..."
