Lancer Ralliart!
« on: January 13, 2008, 06:34:02 pm »
What I've been waiting for, and I know the same is true for some other folks.

http://www.netcarshow.com/mitsubishi/2009-lancer_ralliart/

235 horsepower turbocharged inline-four.

AWD.  Details:

Quote
The Mitsubishi Lancer Ralliart's full-time 4WD driveline features Mitsubishi's Active Center Differential (ACD). The ACD unit employs an electronically controlled multi-plate clutch center differential, vectoring drive torque to the front and rear according to different driving conditions to realize the best balance between steering response and traction characteristics on Tarmac, Gravel, or Snow surfaces.

Mitsubishi Lancer Ralliart is also equipped with front helical limited slip differential and a rear differential mechanical limited slip differential.

It has the twin-clutch semi-automatic.  No mention yet either way of a five-speed manual like the EVO GSR.

Recaro seats appear to be standard equipment.

Available amenities include the 650-watt Rockford Fosgate sound system, sunroof, HID headlights, NAV system, etc.

By the way, is rusty orange the new silver?  First the first CTS pictures were only in rusty orange, then the 135i, now the Ralliart...

So this will have most of the Evo goodies then?   Awd and enough grunt to get out of its own way without being too extreme.   Like a 330zhp to an M3 ?  Ok good plan.   I wonder what the insurance companies will say about it.

This IS my dream car. I would only ask for the rear wing delete option. I know it makes sense on this type of car, but I just don't like them in general.
I cannot wait to  see it in person. I hope they bring it to the Toronto Auto Show.

Yeah.  If it's what I expect when people test-drive it (perhaps less dirt-road ability than the WRX and maybe slower in  straight line, but more steering feel and less body roll), this would be the car I would buy if my pimpin' sorority girl car went kaput (or if I stumbled upon US$28k).  Even if they only offer it with the SST transmission--I'd be willing to give one of those a shot.

I'll take mine withe the Rockford Fosgate sound system, a sunroof, and any color besides orange ;)

Canadian price??!!

3 LSDs on the AWD system. Would prefer a regular 5-speed, worry about the reliability and its' abuse absorption capability. Think I prefer red.

Mitsubishi doesn't have the reliability reputation of Subarus, but they've done quite well in recent surveys, I think--rebadged Dodges excepted.  As for abuse absorption--Mitsubishi may be a third-tier manufacturer, but there is a downright cult around them in Europe, and they take a ton of abuse.  I wouldn't lose any sleep buying it.

Besides, Mitsubishi offers a 10-year, 160,000 km powertrain warranty, even in Canada (unlike Chrysler's).

Does it have any go to back up all that show?  The last Gen Ralliart is no quicker than my C230 despite it's giant wing and gawdawful yellow colour (most of them I see).

The last Ralliart was 165 horsepower, FWD, naturally-aspirated four-cylinder.  This is a 235 horsepower, AWD, turbocharge four-cylinder.  Apples and oranges.

Minus the rear wing, I would want it in black. Otherwise red with the rear spoiler. Hope it will be under $32,000 CDN.

The few times I have taken my car to the track I have run mid 15's to high 15's, the last gen Ralliart is not the quickest in its class but its not that slow.  The stock spoiler isn't that huge either, though adding a Evo wing is popular, especially in Canada it seems.

I agree with you about the yellow, its not a very nice colour, mine is the same grey as pictured (not my car though in that pic).
As far as Mitsubishi's reliability, I've only had minor things with my car in the three years I've owned it, the rear sway bar bushings were squeaking and were replaced; and the clips that hold down the stripping on the edge of the windshield weren't holding it completely down and were also replaced.  Both times there were TSB's on the problems, and they haven't come back.  I'm not sure what long term reliability is like, but since I'm planning on owning this car for atleast another 150k I hope Mitsu's reputation for poorly built cars isn't true.

The new Ralliart definitely does a better job at filling in the gap from the GTS to Evo than the last Gen did.  I think it will sell well and now its Subaru's turn to see what they can do with the WRX!

Impressive work, and a monster jump from the last Ralliart (which always seemed to me like it was a trim level consisting of a fancy badge, fog lights, and some bodywork).

I wonder if that hood scoop is functional or just for "aesthetics".
You can't just have your characters announce how they feel.

I think whatever the price will be, it will be cheaper than the WRX (not by much though). However, the options may be expensive....

Think Mitsu already announced US imports won't have warranty here, let's hope they price it right. Don't expect dealers to sell it less than msrp tho.

3 LSDs on the AWD system.

Don't drop acid and drive  :nono:  ;D

Not that anyone really cares, but I think the Lancer is the best looking entry-level compact sedan available in North America.
