We took a base (Trendline) sportwagen out for a spin a few nights ago. Very nice package all around.

Very good ride/handling compromise, very good power delivery though the gearing in first required more revs than I'm used to to get going. Very light clutch and shifter action. The 5 cylinder only got a bit growly in the upper revs, but the car has a lot of sound insulation so noise never is an issue. The cargo area seems to be much larger than the Vibe. We could put our daughter's large wheelchair (folded) in the back with plenty of room left for luggage.

We'd likely spring for the Comfortline, which adds alloys, Chrome window surrounds, heated seats and a 6 disc changer. Mrs still prefers the Passat, but would be OK with the Jetta.
On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last, and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron.

Isn't esp mandatory in cars in the US from 2009 or 2010... maybe VW is trying to suck up to the Us gov.

I don't see why a HUGE company like VW would make the cars different or even offer different cars for the US/Can markets except in the cases where there are legal issues with equipment like bumpers and whatever stopped them selling the R32 Golf in Canada

Saw an article in the Financial Post the other day that said TC was looking to bring in a similar requirement for Canada. This would be in keeping with their policy of moving towards having Canadian safety standards match with those in the US. I think they are already in the process of reviewing CDN bumper standards with the thought of changing them to match US requirements
Old Jag convertible...one itch I won't have to scratch again.

Would you wait to get the TDI, since the Econ rebate is $1500.00 ( that what he son got on his Jetta) the price of the TDI would only be a couple hundred
How about the sunroof?

We don't drive all that much (35000km on the 2005 Vibe) so I don't know if I'd go for the diesel or not. It might be interesting to try for comparison. At $1.20+ for diesel it wouldn't be for economic reasons! ;D

They had a Comfortline in the showroom with the panoramic sunroof. Certainly made the interior much brighter. I never tend to use them in the rental cars I get, so likely not.

Salesguy was telling me that initial selection would be restricted, so may not have much choice in options. I told him I wasn't in a rush and am willing to wait for the right one. ;D

I'm left feeling pretty positive about the car. Mrs T is still pinning for the Passat though! ;D

I thought the Eco Rebate ends for 08MY?... the Jetta SW is an '09.  :(

I believe you are correct. The feds blew the annual budget for the program ($50M) in 4 months, so the rebate portion has been cancelled. The fees for gas guzzlers stay though. ;)

No, model year. They went back to '06MY when they instituted the program. I too heard '08MY is the last year for ecoAuto rebate, but since the levy remains it's become just another tax incomer. Why it's on full-sized vans is beyond me, as they are mostly strictly work/commercial vehicles while many personal use pickups are not.

Looking at 2.5 / 2.0 TDI full pricing and options, Jettas are now priced to move and the diesel particularly attractive. Despite somewhat frumpy rear end IMO, hope she sells well.

Offline documents.

If you're interested in a trim can relay it but think VW.ca and other sites will be updated shortly.

They had the same list up in Cobourg, that was posted on the TDIclub.com forum
Cobourg shop price is now $79/hr, still a good price for a dealer
if they had the Econ rebate for MY09 the diesel would be a great price

BT, would there much of a price difference between the Passat wagon, and a Jetta
I remember see a very nice Passat wagon for about 32Gs
You would think there would be more to move on a Passat compared to a Jetta
Probably better interest rate also

Lots of "Good 'Ole Boys" with personal use pickups vote ;)

Jetta can get by with regular fuel. The Passat requires premium.

"Fuel Requirement   Premium fuel recommended for maximum performance "
You probably could run 87 or 89 if you wanted
But the difference  is less then 20 coffees at Starbucks, or for this forum 4 case of Lakeport beer ;D

I was surprised to see the Jetta sport wagon listed as a 08 model on the government site
To bad they did not have 2Lt in the Sportwagon they probably coukd of got it under 10/ 100km  on the hiway, or was it they want to market with 87 fuel

Thanks for the input folks!

There is about a $2500 dollar difference between a comfortline Jetta wagon and the trendline Passat wagon.

Hadn't thought about the fuel requirements one way or the other. We don't do tonnes of mileage anyway. I'd likely spend more time on boost than would be absolutely necessary too!

Feel free to add any more thoughts.
