Refreshed RX-8!
« on: January 10, 2008, 12:43:18 pm »
Nicely done except for the wheels.

headlights are a bit generic though. MKI has more uniquely syled headlight housing. this unit seems to be from an mx-5 or mazda3.

recaro seats!

New gauges

The wheels are sick.  I love 'em.  The rest of the car is pretty sweet too.

I wonder if this will have significant engine updates?

I like white...

LED running lights on the bumper. interesting touch.

i like the bumper spoiler.

not sure about the rear.

No change for the Renesis. Wait for 2012. Dipstick now "more accessible" but still requires removal of panel.  ::)

The RX-8 has always had a digital speedo and an analog tach, just like modern Japanese sportbikes.

Wow that is really nice. So shinny, the rims are sick :) as well. Well done Mazda. I wonder how much it will cost. Mazda needs to make a Mazdaspeed RX-8.
Or they could just call it the Ocho

I'm sure the cost will be almost (if not exactly) what it is now.  This is a mid-life refresh.  Nothing more.  Most of the costs for this thing have been done, so a mild-facelift like this gives it another few years of life.

The gauges are new?  Sheesh, coulda fooled me.

Not fussy on the fender vent thing.  Too trendy.

The seats and wheels are verrrr nice.  LED DRLs?  awesome!  I like that blue colour too.

I don't think it is all that much different than the older model. I think you would find the speedo a little small as well.  :)

New gauges

For comparison, here's the current gauges.

The absence of an oil temperature gauge appears to be the main difference.  Not a good move, especially for a rotary.

If it's too small, yer too old.  When driving an RX8, I never had any trouble with the digi-speedo.  The tach is huge on that thing, so the image might be a bit deceiving.

Thanks Mitlov for the comparo.  FWIW, I prefer the current gauges to the new ones.

The front lights are lacking sharpness or something. Can't put my finger on what is preventing me from being taken by it. Also, that LED light string nearly looks like chrome... should have darkened housing when unlit.

I like most of the other changes. Those wheels are hot, seats aggressive, clear sporty instrumentation. Good job overall.

the oil gauge on mkI is useless anyways. so makes no difference by removing it.

do note that second set of 'redline' bars denoting M3-like RPM acceptable range when the engine hasn't reached operational temps. with the new gauge, you no longer have that neat darkened gauge upon shut-off in the mkI.
Not liking the steering wheel tho. Too CX-7/9 to me.
I like what Mazda did for this refresh in that one can still see some nice improvements and yet not enough to make mkI dated. Atleast I hope not! hahahaha....
