It would be interesting to compare a mid 1930's Austin 7 to a 2008 Nano.   Performance, comfort, weight, etc etc.   .  Same sort of simplicity..
I am sure the Nano would stop far better than the Austin.

That is true. But at this rate the future seams in doubt with Nano. I guess Perodua kelisa hasn't lost it crown for the world cheapest car. $7,500 for a Toyota/Daihatsu City run about. They drive like the old Mini. :)

I believe most commercial place are land lease

You know I have never understood why. Even the banks do it. I think it would be different if your a small company. But a large company?  You would think that owning the land and the building would be more cost affective. B/C they tend to be there for the long term. But I guess not. :)

Big companies USED to own land.... same as Banks and Insurance companies USED to put up headquarters buildings that, sometimes, were architecturally rather good ( for the times).     Nowadays no.  Scotia Bank for example does not own Scotia Place... IIRC it holds some of the mortgage and certainly leases quite a lot of the building.

But if you, as a company, OWN something then if you go bankrupt, people can take it from you, if you only lease it then your creditors have no action against the landlord and they can go to hell before they get anything of yours.

Interesting thread. Very interesting car and a bit of a throwback. So many cars gain weight and size each generation and fuel economy stagnates despite improvements from better versions of VVT and other techs due to the increasing mass.

It is interesting how much the original Beetle evolved from its 1930s roots. How much could the Nano evolve with seatbelts, ABS, airbags etc and the engine getting up to 0.8L or so.

I wonder how good the car could be with a $8000 price tag?

Small wonder Hyundai is moving a bit upmarket and improving so much the last several years.

Price $6350 US.

I wonder how many Canadians would line up for a car this cheap car. For A-B transportation It would do the job. I would buy one as 2nd car at that price. :)

With no safety considerations engineered into the Nano the cost savings are not worth the risk of driving on any 400 series highway.

Does that mean you do not think bikes should be on the 400 series highway?
Should OHIP be getting be charging a fee depending on what kind of car we drive?

There is Nano Euro coming soon. That's the one the rest of the world is getting.  It should be a lot safer. I've ridden down the 401 on motorbike as long as keep the speed up its no worst than Spanish Motorways. Which I have driven on for years. You should try Málaga in a rush hour. LOL.

No, chances are a MC rider on a 400 Series Highway has above average driving skill-sets and can accelerate out of trouble. My lawnmower can out run a Nano.
