I bought a TurboGrafx 16 (PC Engine) with R-Type and a few other games recently, it's ace, and the games load in about 1 second from power on!

Being able to surf the web on the PS3/Big screen TV is a nice bonus that I don't know was a PS3 option.

I find Gamespot's site to be way too bandwidth greedy and usually hogs almost 100% CPU in Opera.

That is a troubling sign, or you have an absolutely ancient PC.
You can't just have your characters announce how they feel.
That makes me feel angry!

I had the same problem with my 5-year old laptop. It's gone now with my new laptop. But it's good to have those other websites for those with older computers.

My Logitech Bluetooth PS3 keyboard was delivered today. Makes surfing the web easier with the PS3 unit. I should say I am quite impressed with this PS3 unit. Gaming, Blu-Ray 1080P and internet all in one on the big screen. Plus, it plays all your music CD's and stores them to it's hard drive. You can even print from it.
The unit came with three free games and on Monday I sent in for my 5 free blu-ray movies. It's like Sony is paying you to purchase a PS3.

PS3 is very quiet.  One not hear it  :D  to appreciate it.

Son got R-Fall of Man right from the get go, but that's not my interest.  When GT5 comes out I'll get it as will every other PS3 user so I hope they distribute enough copies.  Like others have mentioned the cost of the PS3 is worth it just for the B-ray player.

PS3 and Blu-Ray pulling away?

THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

TOKYO – Sony said Monday that PlayStation 3 game machine sales totalled 1.2 million in North America during the key holiday season, boosting the strength of its console's Blu-ray next-generation video format.

Competition is intense among the latest video game machines – pitting Sony Corp. against Nintendo Co. and Microsoft Corp. Competition is also fierce between two of the latest video formats – Blu-ray and HD DVD.

The PlayStation 3 also works as a Blu-ray player.

Sony Computer Entertainment, the Japanese electronics and entertainment company's game unit, also said sales of the PlayStation Portable handheld reached 1.4 million in North America during the Nov. 23 to Dec. 31 holiday shopping period.

Including sales of 1.3 million for PlayStation 2, PS3's predecessor, retail sales of the three PlayStation machines combined reached more than 3.9 million in North America, Tokyo-based Sony said.

Sony has been struggling against the popularity of the Wii machine from Nintendo, which went on sale about the same time as the PS3. The Wii has succeeded in attracting newcomers to gaming with easy-to-play games that use a wandlike remote-controller.

The Wii was one of the hottest holiday gifts and its North American sales are likely to have been booming. Nintendo officials in Kyoto, Japan, were attending a New Year's ceremony and weren't immediately available for comment.

Sony has had more favourable news recently for its Blu-ray technology.

The rival HD DVD movie disc format, backed by Japanese electronics maker Toshiba Corp., was dealt a potentially fatal blow by the weekend defection of Warner Bros. Entertainment to Blu-ray.

Only two major U.S. studios now support only HD DVD – Viacom's Paramount Pictures, which also owns DreamWorks SKG, and Universal Pictures, a unit of General Electric.

Although both formats deliver better image quality than the DVDs more common today, one format is expected to emerge the winner and attracting movie studios to the format is critical for making the format widespread.

Sony can hope to gain more sales in its core electronics products, including Blu-ray recorders and high-definition flat-panel TVs, if consumers choose Blu-ray.

"The PlayStation brand ended the year in a very strong position and clearly indicates more positive momentum going into 2008," said Jack Tretton, president and chief executive of Sony Computer Entertainment America.

"The strong PS3 sales also further establish Blu-ray's dominant position as the high-definition medium of choice for games and movies," he said in a statement.

:hello: I’m one of those new people recently attracted to gaming. We got a Wii for Christmas because it is more family oriented with the bonus of getting some exercise while gaming. We have been keeping away from gaming consoles because I have witnessed far too many kids sitting on the couch playing games and eating junk for hours. Wii is actually quite fun and we all enjoy it.

Agree with the Wii recc, I've had one for a few months now. I like firing it up for a break from writing to play a bit of tennis or golf. The Nintendo people did a terrific job, it's a very well thought out system.

The graphics for the Wii is mediocre at best, but it seems to be a very good party hit. Even adults play head-to-head. Tennis doubles at the living room with four people swinging after a few drinks can be dangerous.  :)

This just proves that the majority of people want easy, fun playing games and that the best graphics in the world won't make them buy anything. Its just like iPod, there really isn't anything great about it but they make it easy to work and that is what people want.

I still have to try the Wii one day, it sounds like fun.

My wife and BIL were at a party where people were playing a golf game on a Wii.  My BIL is a golfer and he had alot of fun with it.  My wife played a boxing game and she said it was quite a work out.  So she now wants a Wii.  We shall see...
