My source for stating they are Interstate was from the Costco Magazine from last year.

Both Interstate and the Kirkland brand are under the Johnson Controls umbrella so that would make sense.

Got about 11 years out of the original battery in my 1992 Escort GT. Similar performance in my 1993 Tercel. About half of that for the battery in my 1995 Corolla wagon.
On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last, and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron.

DElCO has never had a leaking problem from the side terminal Batteries ever. This is just more of the same total BS from you Steve as you now have to make blantant lies up in order to try and sound like you know anything at all. They always have been and are still one of the finest Batteries in the world market to-day. Whats your next lie gonna be on Steve?

Okay, I just checked the battery.

Kirkland Signature, 640 Cold cranking amps, 800 cranking amps, and it has a 100 month warranty (about 8 years).  :) Very good deal, IMO.

Old battery was the OEM one, made by Delphi.

Is that a 100-month replacement warranty?  I know my Eliminator battery has a "10 year warranty", but only a 3-year replacement warranty.  The rest of that is pro-rated.

For practical purposes the "100% replacement" guarantee is the only guarantee.  The prorated parts are worth about as much as a coupon.

are still one of the finest Batteries in the world market to-day.

They are from a company presently in Chapter 11 and under enormous financial pressure so you gotta think Delphi has moved production to China for the cheapo labour and parts.
I'd probably buy one over an Exide if they were the only choice.  Fortunately, that is far from the situation.  :)

The problem with side terminal batteries is that they are fundamentally flimsy and as such are really susceptible to over torque which twists them clockwise.  Then they will leak.

Unlike 20 years ago when GM first started using side posts, cars now have air bags, computer codes, etc., that require batteries to be discontinued for repair.  You go to work on the fuel system you gotta de-power the car.  Same with anything in the dash.  So as a consequence the side post connections get to much re & re and start to unseat  and then leak.  Bad design for today, but not surprising considering ....  :)

Just more BS excuses as So what if they are in chapter anything? The Delco Battery products are part of GM and Delphi is only a small part of it. They still make the Best Batteries in the world for the average car or truck so Whats your next lie gonna be about Steve? They are still larger then Toyota as well so they are still the worlds largest auto maker. Because Toyota is smaller does that mean that all of their products are junk as well Steve? By your reasoning it does. Steve do you know even why the side terminal Batteries were invented or are we gonna get some more BS from you on this answer as well ?  :)

Dec. 11, 2007 (Thomson Financial delivered by Newstex) --

TROY, Mich. (AP) - Bankrupt auto supplier Delphi Corp. (OOTC:DPHIQ) said Tuesday it agreed to sell its global steering and halfshaft business to a private equity group.

Delphi did not disclose financial terms of the deal with Steering Solutions Corp., a unit of Platinum Equity LLC.

The company also said it sealed a 'transaction facilitation agreement' with General Motors Corp. (NYSE:GM) that foresees GM 'making certain commitments to Delphi in connection with the sale. Specifics of that agreement were not disclosed. GM owned Delphi and was its primary customer. The carmaker retains responsibility for some of Delphi's long-term labor obligations.

They are still larger then Toyota as well

I believe this is a thread about batteries, not Toyota.  ::)

Steve do you know even why the side terminal Batteries were invented or are we gonna get some more BS from you on this answer as well ?

1.  To annoy ppl.

2.  To make jump starting unnecessarily difficult.

3.  To help GM sell more batteries.

Side terminal batteries BLOW, always have.  :P

Vehicle:
: 1995 2500 6.5L non-turbo diesel (240,000miles)

I did this very same thing on a 1983 Silverado 6.2 Diesel

: 1. I'll be needing new batteries (dual setup) in the spring and I'm considering replacing all the old battery cables, therefore, I'm thinking about converting to top-post batteries. : Good/bad idea? If good, where can I get the new cables or is this a custom proposition?

Not just a good idea... It should be required at the first sign of battery trouble. Side-post batteries in GM vehicles are notorious for cracking and leaking acid down the cables. I'm in the middle of this process myself. Friday I ordered a set of mil-spec battery terminals from Premier Power Welder (www.premierpowerwelder.com). $22 for both pair. On Monday I will be ordering the battery cables made of 3/0 gauge welding wire from Battery Serviced of Chicago (www.batteryservice.com). They'l make any size cable with any size/type terminal you may need. I think they quoted me at $26 for two 5' 3/0 battery cables. I realize this isn't exactly what I need, but I wanted to get a rough idea of what I was looking at.

Sorry Barrie.  Side post batteries are crap, that is why GM was the only company to use them.

Just my kind of thread since I'm into battery tech and know how to make them last.  ;D

Age: 17 years completed...now on its 18th year.
Make: Panasonic...OEM in the 1990 Toyota Tercel.

Age: 8 years completed...now in its 9th year.
Make: Panasonic...OEM in the 1999 Honda CR-V.

Both of the above show no signs of slowing down. No sulphation/capacity/internal resistance issues. Both cars start without hesitation...even when -30°C.

Motorcycle batteries last 8 full years with off season care. Make: Mareg. I'll see how long the Exide batteries last...almost 5 years so far.

What you won't find in my car is a coffee, cigarette and a cell phone. What you will find is a driver; imagine that, a driver in a vehicle. What an effing concept!
A car has to do more than just perform; it has to stir your soul!
A true driver's car does not have cup holders.

Just checked and my Sonata has a "New Solite" 600 CCA battery with the Hyundai name also on the label. But the label doesn't mention where that battery is made.

Considering that my car was assembled at the Alabama plant, I thought that the battery would be from a north american supplier.  But me thinks that Solite is an Asian brand.  Is my assumption correct?

Have you ever seen any side terminal Batteries covered in Battery Acid? Thats extremely rare to see but the top terminal ones do it all the time in comparison to them. I'll take a side terminal anyday over the top terminal Battery any day of the week as they do last longer then the top post type from any I have ever worked on. I have always gotten at least 7 to 11 years on average with the Delco side termianl Batteries but never a top terminal type ever.  You can make the terminals up with either end design but I will always use the side terminal ones as I know it will be extremely rare for me to clean any acid off of them.  :)

Have you ever seen any side terminal Batteries covered in Battery Acid?

That is not battery acid.  That is sulfation (a by-product).  It is normal form of accretion and it happens on any connection both top and side terminal.  The only reason you THINK  it doesn't occur on sides terminal is because they are inboard connections and not visible to your EYEBALL.  :)

Still, side terminals are weak and will and do leak actual battery acid.  If they were good I'd think they'd be standard issue with all manufacturers.

How does 17 years and still going strong for a battery with top terminals sound?

BTW, I've never liked the side terminals. What a royal PITA!

You have been very fortunate to have a Battery of any make or model last that long as thats not the normal happening for any brand. The odds are about 90% better for not having any buildup on the terminals on a side terminal battery compared to the top terminal. This white stuff will eat holes in your clothing so if it isen't called acid what is Steve? Do you really have a clue about GM as the Delco Division which make the Batteries is owned by GM and not Delphi but you continue to publish false info as usual regarding GM. Just how clueless are you really Steve? THey use distilled water inside most batteries which is not acidic until it has been charged to the full strength of the batteries power limit. Then it becomes acidic and the white acid starts to form after that. Just because GM uses the side terminal dosen't mean that the other Builders can as they have probably patented the rights to the idea. Probably bothers the other makers that they didn't figure it out 1st like a lot of other stuff they copy from GM.  :)

Lead Sulphite salt or ester.  But, best not to sprinkle it on your roast beef.  :D

Do you really have a clue about GM as the Delco Division which make the Batteries is owned by GM and not Delphi but you continue to publish false info as usual regarding GM.

Delphi, no longer a GM company, but still a major supplier (who else is going to buy from them  :)) took all of AC Delco and is in the process of spinning some of those operations off.  GM retained some naming rights such as "Freedom".

THey use distilled water inside most batteries which is not acidic until it has been charged to the full strength of the batteries power limit.

Dude, new batteries are filled with sulfuric acid, not water.   ::)  To top up a used battery one then can use water.

Here is good example of just how crap Delco side batteries are:

AC Delco - GM Battery Leaking Acid Complaint ripoff Nationwide

My wife and I purchsed 2 Saturn vehicles from the Saturn Dealership in December of 2000, they were 2001 models. I have owned 3 Saturns prior to this purchase because I honestly believed in the company and it's quality of vehicle. What I have since discovered is that GM uses faulty batteries to run and operate the vehicles they sell. The battery they use is AC Delco (which is owned by General Motors - something I was not aware of until this afternoon).

In 2002 my car would not start. Upon opening the hood I discovered that the positive connection to the battery was wet and something had been leaking out, battery acid. I had to get the vehicle towed to the dealership, but in the process the guy doing the tow had failed to put the car into neutral. I pointed this out to him and he told me something to the effect that he had been doing this for years and he was doing it right. Black marks were made on my driveway as a result and after the battery was replaced I was told that there was also damage done to my brakes.

Fast Forward to September of 2003. My wife and I moved to Central Florida. She was about to go to work and came back into the house to tell me her car would not start. I went out and sure enough, the EXACT same thing happened. Battery Acid had leaked out. The good side, no evident damage appeared to have been done and EVERYTHING was covered under warranty. The battery was replaced and we were told it had an 18 month warranty.

Fast Forward to September of 2004. I am driving my car along the road and it suddenly dies on me. Coasting to the side of the road I begin to freak out a little. I turn the car off and then sit for a moment then try to start it. It starts, so I immediatly take it to the Saturn Dealership. Upon opening the hood, guess what? The positive connection was yet again corroded. It's a lucky thing I was not driving on the interstate that day! They had to change the battery, but this time it was pro-rated to me. I spent $69.95 for that plus $3.13 for a bolt, plus who knows how much for the install, I had some other work done so the install price is not itemized.

Fast Forward to today, January 13th. My wife is again about to go to work and comes back to tell me her car won't start. Before I even look, I can already assume it's the positive connection leaking acid. I went down and took a picture of it, which is what you see here. I called the Saturn Dealership and they tried to tell me that it was not covered under warranty, that from September of 2004 to now exceeded 18 months, I tried to correct his math, but he assured me I was wrong. My math tells me it's 16 months, but what do I know? I was also told that the warranty on my wife's car only ran for the first 3 years, or 36,000 miles. Odd how I was holding in my hand the Service Plan Agreement for her car that stated we had a 5 year/60,000 mile warranty coverage.

He also told me that towing and install would not be covered under the warranty either. I called my wife at work (she took my car) and explained this all to her and we both agreed that it sounded like a crock. She called them and then called me back and told me that someone in the Service Department said that both the battery and the install would be covered under the warranty.

At this point I became very confused and called them back. I was now told what my wife had been told; that the battery and the install were covered under warranty, but that we had to figure out some way to get the car towed there, the towing would still not be covered.

I got off the phone with the dealership and called the Saturn 800-number for roadside assistance, the same number we had called the previous 3 times this had happened. I gave them my VIN number and asked about my warranty and the lady told me that towing WAS covered under my warranty.

I hung up and called the dealship to let them know my car would be brought in. They told me that their computers were down and they would have to take my information down manually. Within an hour and a half after hanging up with Roadside Assistance my wife's car was towed to the dealership.

I've yet to hear anything from the dealership in regards to my car, but I can honestly say that my faith in General Motors is almost gone. I cannot understand how I can get such a run-around, how they can outfit their vehicles with a battery that obviously has some issues, and yet they have not done a recall on the batteries to fix the issues!

Can you imagine driving you car with you family on the interstate then all of a sudden it dies on you? What kind of lawsuit do you think the parent company of AC Delco would face in an instance like that? Instead I guess the would rather replace the bad battery with another model that will do the same thing.

I can guarentee that I will post a followup to this after I hear what they have to tell me.

Another leaking AC/Delco battery!

I bought an Oldsmobile Aurora in 2001, and to Delco's credit, the battery lasted until September, 2005. Olds saw fit to locate the battery in this car, under the back seat, so checking its 'Freedom' battery was/is not a simple everyday thing.

When the battery died this week, I pulled out the rear seat cushion to find a pool of acid in the battery tray and an encrusted positive terminal/cable end. Upon attempting to unscrew the cable, the entire terminal broke out of the battery.

My car is still under its original 60 months/60,000 mile 'bumper to bumper' warranty, but GM refuses to fix it as they no longer cover any battery/related parts for more than 3 years or 36,000 miles.

Add this one to some other historical issues with GM and its products and this will probably be the last GM product I purchase.

Purchased GMC pickup in 2002 it came with standard stock battery. After 3.5 years the battery suddenly died. It would not jump or take a charge. The battery was then replaced with a similar/same battery for $125.00. After 16 months the battery went dead again. The first battery was deemed a bad cell. The second battery would not take a charge. The second battery was replaced free of charge to a third battery. It is clear to me that something is defective about this line of batteries. There was also corrosion found and cleaned off the connections both times. All three times this battery was dealer standard stock part AC Delco battery 650 CCA. I have gone through three batteries in 5 years and 2 months I think this is a little accessive for a battery that boast a 5 year life span.

In the past I have had Mopar or Diehard batteries and have gotten in access of five years useage from them. Don't know what AC Delco problem is?

Probably bothers the other makers that they didn't figure it out 1st like a lot of other stuff they copy from GM.  :)

What is wrong with copying and improving on something. If it were so "perfect" in the first place, it couldn't have been improved upon.

People copying off GM. Surely you jest.  :rofl2:  :rofl2: More like the NA auto industry copying and being a few steps behind everyone else.

I have TD GM Visa card...only because way back they were the only ones with no annual fee. I was up to almost $3000; I'm now down to under $300...I've lost all my earnings not that I ever planned on using them.

Anyway...happily enjoying my 17 year old non GM/Delco battery.
