Looks like a hopped up Smart from the "brabus"  on the front.

If a Smart car gets hopped up does that make it a Dumb car? 

Your guess is as good as mine? There was talk in the "Smart Thread" of there being a turbo gas version. "Brabus" used to be dealer  accessories you could install on the Smart.

Great article you found airbalancer, proving such a vehicle does exist! In the European, and Asian, markets almost all the major Auto Manufactures offer a Diesel option for many of their popular models.

Honda is on track to bring a new Diesel with new innovative techniques that are different to what VW or Mercedes are using to pass the new emission standards. Although to me it almost sounds like Honda is using their old CVCC ideas with this new Diesel.

It’ll be great if Honda comes out in 2009 with these new Diesels in their Accords and CRVs.
Shouldn’t something like this model from Toyota UK also be available by 2009? That's a hint Toyota North America!

Is that a Honda?    I've own 2 cars that were 10' long, but they were both Austins.

It's a Brabus Ultimate 112--a tuned Smart Fortwo with a three-cylinder turbocharged gas engine making 110 horsepower (112 PS, hence the name).

Brabus generally makes road-rocket versions of Mercedes-Benzes (for example, the Brabus Bullit is a C-Class with a 720 hp, 974 ft-lb twin-turbo V12).  But they also tune Smart cars.

Honda started offering the 2.2 i-CTDi in the CRv for MY2005.

By less do you mean less consumption/better mpg? Think the article's fuel economy figures were conservative, or at least achieveable.

Don't want to pull a Mazda and claim a big figure only to restate it

No way, not even in US MPG should it be in the 20's. 30's city / 40's highway in the US and 40's city / 50's highway here as what I'd expect. Was initially hoping into the 60's highway like my 50/64mpg '01 TDI but appears it won't be rated that high.

No way, not even in US MPG should it be in the 20's. 30's city / 40's highway in the US and 40's city / 50's highway here as what I'd expect. Was initially hoping into the 60's highway like my 50/64mpg '01 TDI but appears it won't be rated that high.

I suppose the new exhaust treatment takes a toll on economy and the new car is undoubtedly heavier than the older one. It would be neat to see it get to 60mpg...maybe at a constant 100km/h it might.

I like the idea of a nice new GOLF(Rabbit) diesel as my next car as I like the Golf/Rabbit but having owned two real awd cars in quick succession and also driving the FIT a lot I am not sure I want a FWD car for myself.   And if there is only the Jetta sedan/wagon then I may as well have another German brand of sedan with AWD or RWD.

I visited my dealer a few weeks ago, they already have 4~5 pre-orders on the TDIs.
Yes, they order without knowing the exact price, they estimate $2000 on top of the 2.5.

VW.com already states mid-50's US MPG highway. So say it's 55mpg in the US, that'd make it 66mpg / 4.3L/100kms here

On a related note, sat in a Jetta SportWagen today at Don Valley VW. Roof appears to be Jetta-like not Rabbit/GTI-like, so coupled with the Pana Roof my head brushes the headliner up front when the seat is as upright as I prefer, thankfully in rear the glass extends to exactly where your head would be but unfortunately the sides of it for the headliner impede down a little too much for me to be comfy back there without tilting my head sideways. Of course, Tiguan solves the headroom issue but compromises on the cargo space, which the Wagen offers much more of.

Still, lovely car at a good price.

Chances are low the wagon will get the 2.0T.
There is rumor that VW Canada will follow USA and drop the Jetta 2.0T sedan for MY2009.
So if you want a turbo, GLI would be the only choice.

Not for me, I have a long list of other cars I would get before a GLI. Now a 2.0T Wagon would have me very close to signing.
