$39K is pretty close to where it should be.  I figure the US price will be $34-35K.  Could be a winner...

Well, the Mitsu Gallant GTS MT in the US is $18,215 and in Canada is $23,193.  That's a 27% USA-Canada "mark-up."  So, I bet the EVO will be 30-35% higher in Canada than in the US.

If it's $39K in Canada, I expect that the US price will be ~$30K flat.  That would be worthwhile shopping south of the border.  I bet that the US price is $34K and the Canadian price is $44K.  Sounds more "traditional" in the pricing of our cars.

For what it's worth, the Outlander (LS 4WD w/Convenience Pkg) was 19% over the US price in 2007 when the exchange rate was about 0.84 or so. They may use a different ratio with the new models. However, Evo being a Canadian premier, things may be different. My guess is that Mitsu will price the Evo/Ralliart below the Subarus, even though not by much.

Well with a Lancer GTS starting below $22k, even after adding some fancy bits, a turbo and AWD for the Ralliart, it ought to come in at what, maybe $32k (and undercut the WRX by a few g's, like Carcrazy said)?  That would make for a very reasonable $8k jump to the EvoX, no?

I think looking at the pricing structure and product line up these prices make a bit more sense.  Of course, Subaru doesn't see it that way with more than double the cost of a basic Impreza to a top line STI model, so who knows.

Base GSR will be US$32,990.00

Still 18% "mark-up"...

I doubt $39K will be a real price then.  The US price will be about 33,500 with freight and delivery, and our price won't be a nickel less than $41,900 with PDI.  I figure $39,995 and then $1800-2000 for PDI.  For some reason, washing a car in the US can be done for $100-200 and in Canada it's $1200 or so.  I used to PDI cars when I was young, and I think I should get back into it.  It's a pretty easy job and if it "costs" (hahahaha!) over a thousand bucks, wheeee...

But the mark-up on the STI is nearly 50%, right?  2007 STi was $33,000 in the US and $49,000 in Canada.

Yup...most pre-2008 pre-dollar-loonie-par "sporty-type" cars were 50%+. STis, S2000s, even the WRX, etc, etc...exceptions are GM cars, I guess... ???

The "mark-up" has been somewhat slightly reduced a bit by new 2008+ pricing...eg. WRX price is reduced 10% or so.

And the latest "rumour" is that the Canadian pricing for 40K USD STi (the top-of-the-line STi is the only STi model Canadians get) will be 45K CAD....only a 12.5% mark-up now!   ;D   Waiting for the official word, likely from the Monttreal autoshow.

You should hurry up. The Yankees already tested the Evo (both GSR and MR) from all positions and it's all good.

Edmunds today:

I was kind of surprised they liked the MR the most (the slowest and non-manual).

Off-topic: Are YOU going to test the Astra any time soon or what?

I didn't know the MR had different (softer) damping.  It didn't hurt it any around the race track as it posted quicker times...which might be due to that spiffy transmission.
